Liana Bank$ Returns With Unapologetic New Single “Dancing At A Funeral”

After kicking off the year with romance and revenge, connecting with Lola Brooke and Cleotrapa for “Petty,” Liana Bank$ follows up with her latest ode to breaking toxic cycles, “Dancing At A Funeral.”

The R&B-infused single demonstrates how sometimes an ending is the best beginning. Dancing in sunny optimism, Bank$’s evocative lyrics showcase the brighter side of breaking up. As a delicate guitar underlines her glassy delivery in between finger-snaps, she offers up a word to the wise, crooning, “Had to save the little joy that was left in me/I can’t say I really care if you rest in peace.” Inviting listeners to feel her grief, Bank$ is quietly becoming a master of the break-up anthem, turning real life drama into hit records.

Behind the song, Liana Bank$ explains: “I wrote ‘Dancing At A Funeral’ to celebrate the removal of things, thought processes, habits & people that no longer served me. I was in a space where I knew I had to let go of anything that weighed me down in order to elevate. [The song] is a positive spin on metaphorical death, something that I felt was rarely discussed in music. Anything that didn’t match my higher self was dead to me, and instead of mourning those losses, I wanted to celebrate the growth I was headed towards.”

Along with the new single, Bank$ shares the accompanying visual for “Dancing At A Funeral.” Directed by Jillian Iscaro, it draws viewers in with powerful imagery about how to set yourself free and reclaim your self-respect.

As an accomplished songwriter (whose penned hits for SaweetieBebe Rhexa, and PNB Rock to name a few), Bank$ has developed quite the reputation for her pen. She’s created her own lane of modern R&B infused with hip-hop and soul that bends genres, and she has no intent to slow down anytime soon, evidenced by her slate of upcoming releases with Demi LovatoChloe BaileyLatto, and Anitta.

Dancing At A Funeral” is a slow-burning ballad that celebrates life after a breakup and  learning how to love yourself again. It’s a fluttering farewell to the things that no longer serve you, paired with lush vocals that set the tone for Liana Bank$’s forthcoming project, Apt. 210, arriving later this year.

About Liana Bank$:

Born in Manhattan and raised in Queens, Liana Bank$ grew up surrounded by a family of gifted singers and musicians. “I always knew that music would be my life,” she recalls. The house was filled with the sounds of Nina Simone, Bill Withers and James Brown. Later on, icons like Sade, Lauryn Hill, Biggie Smalls, and Missy Elliot became some of her major influences. While still in high school, she started hanging out at writing and recording sessions in Brooklyn, and pretty soon she was doing the writing herself. Within a short time she was working with top producers including Scott Storch, Jerry Wonda, and JR Rotem. And penning songs for such artists as Lily Allen, Teyana Taylor, Lion Babe, Jodeci, and many others. Her song “Selfish” was a breakout platinum single for PNB Rock. But there was another talent that everyone who worked with Liana noticed immediately, and that was her captivating, soulful and completely unique singing voice. It wasn’t long before she moved from behind the scenes and began working on her solo career.

Her debut EP, Insubordinate, landed on multiple “Best of the Year” and “Artist To Watch” lists, including High Snobiety, TIME Magazine, Nylon and more. Red Bull Music chose the EP as the top hip-hop/R&B release of the year, and to further make the point of her triple-threat appeal, she landed on the cover of fashion mag Bombshell’s inaugural print edition. Meanwhile, Liana has continued to be in demand as a songwriter; in recent months she collaborated on multiple tracks, including the smash “Best Friend” featuring Doja Cat, for the upcoming album by multiplatinum Warner Records artist Saweetie. With current and upcoming releases by Demi Lovato, Bebe Rexha, Chloe Bailey, Latto, and Anitta she continues to add to her resume as one of the hottest writers in the business today. Her new EP, titled Apt. 210, will be released later this year on UnitedMasters. With an intoxicating gumbo of hip-hop, R&B, pop, soul and rock, Liana Bank$ is stirring a musical pot that could only have been cooked up by her. “I’m growing as a person, and my music is growing too,” she says. “I can’t wait to show the world who I am.”
