Black Storytellers Present Season 7 of ‘Stories from the Stage’

Hosted by Wes Hazard and Theresa Okokon, the renowned national storytelling series, Stories from the Stage (formerly WORLD Channel), commences its seventh season amidst a backdrop of significant dreams and extensive journeys. The series, fostering the belief that amidst challenging times, our commonalities outweigh our differences, debuts with two captivating episodes featuring individuals dreaming expansively and traversing vast distances.

Diverse Narratives of Aspiration and Exploration

The compelling tales showcased in the initial episodes encompass the remarkable experiences of individuals such as genocide educator and author Karen Kersten. Kersten recounts her poignant journey in seeking out the nuns who sheltered her Holocaust survivor mother from the clutches of the Nazis. Additionally, the narrative delves into the life of Zalaikha Wahid, a former medical student from Bunker Hill Community College who fled Afghanistan during the Taliban regime’s ascension.

Unveiling Struggles and Triumphs

The stories further encompass a spectrum of human experiences: a Littleton author and social worker’s profound expedition into the heart of Colombia, the emotional turmoil experienced by South Portland resident KiM Capone-Sprague, and the relentless efforts of Global Arts Live and 585 Arts, Inc. CEO Connie C. Chin in mastering the Chinese language.

Capturing Musical Magic

Later in the month, a compilation episode celebrates magical musical moments featuring acclaimed personalities such as singer-songwriters Melissa Ferrick and Jeffrey Foucault, alongside attorney, author, and podcaster Jason Prokowiew.

  • Bucket List (Monday, January 8, 9:30 p.m. Eastern): Featuring stories of personal dreams and introspection shared by Connie Chin, KiM Capone-Sprague, and Keith Serry.
  • Quest (Monday, January 22, 9:30 p.m. Eastern): Unveiling narratives of courage and dreams realized by Zalaikha Wahid, Karen Kirsten, and Meg Stafford.
  • Sound Check (Monday, January 29, 9:30 p.m. Eastern): Exploring the role of music in shaping identities through the tales of Melissa Ferrick, Jeffrey Foucault, and Jason Prokowiew.

Selected stories from the series are also broadcast on Fridays on The World, a globally-oriented radio program from PRX and GBH. The upcoming episodes are set to air weekly until June 2024.
