Comedy Central has greenlit a 10-episode order of “Golden AxeGolden Axe™,” a fresh animated series inspired by the beloved Sega video game franchise. The star-studded voice cast features Emmy® award winner Matthew Rhys, Danny Pudi, Lisa Gilroy, Liam McIntyre, and Carl Tart. Produced by CBS Studios in collaboration with Sony Pictures Television and Original Film, “Golden Axe” is set to bring nostalgic laughs and action-packed adventure to screens.

A Nostalgic Homage to Sega’s Classic Game
“Golden Axe” pays homage to Sega’s iconic 1989 video game series, transporting viewers into the fantasy realm of Yuria. The series follows veteran warriors Ax Battler, Tyris Flare, and Gilius Thunderhead as they embark on a quest to save Yuria from the relentless villain Death Adder. Joining the fray is the inexperienced and underprepared Hampton Squib, adding a comedic twist to the epic adventure.
Meet the Cast of Characters
Matthew Rhys steps into the role of Gilius Thunderhead, portraying the grumpy battle dwarf with a penchant for adventure and questionable hygiene. Danny Pudi brings to life Hampton Squib, a wide-eyed novice adventurer fueled by enthusiasm but lacking in practical skills. Lisa Gilroy embodies Tyris Flare, a formidable battle sorceress known for her sharp wit and deadly spells. Liam McIntyre portrays Ax Battler, a noble barbarian warrior with a heart of gold and a penchant for honor. Carl Tart rounds out the cast as Chronos “Evil” Lait, a self-proclaimed badass humanoid panther with a knack for being out of sync with the situation.

The series is a collaboration between CBS’ Eye Animation Productions, Sony Pictures Television, and Original Film. Mike McMahan and Joe Chandler serve as executive producers, with Chandler taking on the role of showrunner. Sega executives Haruki Satomi, Shuji Utsumi, and Toru Nakahara join the production team as executive producers, alongside Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, and Toby Ascher of Original Film. Titmouse, known for its work on “Big Mouth,” serves as the animation studio for the series.
