Live Session: Bobby Brackins

Bobby Brackins has stepped out of the shadows to show the music world the face behind the sound that is taking over the air waves right now. With co-writing credits for Chris Brown and Tinashe, rapper/songwriter Brackins’ solo career is taking off like a rocket.

The Hype Magazine had a conversation with this young man and it was no surprise to find a young man who’s very aware and makes himself clearly understood…I guess that’s natural considering he’s a stella songwriter. We got to get his take on the music industry now, how he fits in and what’s next for him and his career. A diverse individual, his interests of course include fashion as well as the music business.

One of the best things about a live interview is HEARING the excitement in the voice of the other person as they give thanks for their blessings and fans while acknowledging their impact on people via their craft. This was one of my most enjoyable interviews of 2014…let us know what you think!

Back Story:

The Video:

Responsible for co-writing two of the summer’s inescapable hits, Chris Brown’s “Loyal” and Tinashe’s “2 On,” rapper/songwriter Bobby Brackins is supercharging his solo career with his release of the video for “Hot Box,” featuring G-Eazy and Mila J. Billboard premiered the video, which follows Bobby romping around an intimate house party with Mila J and a handful of her closest friends. The song, which was featured by LA’s Power 106 as a Song of the Week, has already surpassed 1.3M plays on SoundCloud and has The FADER calling it “a perfect weekender,” and The Smoking Section claiming it has “such an addictive bounce, repeat listens happen without intention.”

Through the massive success of the track, Brackins launched himself into the top 10 on Billboard’s Emerging Artists Chart. “Hot Box” illustrates Bobby’s tenacity for songwriting and ability to cross seamlessly into the pop rap world while still maintaining his East Oakland roots. On referencing the creation of the track Bobby reflects, “‘Hot Box’ has been popping off in parties and functions. It sounds amazing in the car. People are going to pre-party and cruise to it and play it when then are in the mood to have a good time. People are going to start understanding that my sound is what has generated a lot of what’s working on the radio. I’m excited to put out my new music. I was behind the scenes for a while now it’s time to get it poppin’ for myself.”

Brackins’ songwriting credit for Chris Brown’s platinum hit “Loyal,” recently earned him a BMI award. With over 25 million YouTube plays, and international radio spins to his credit, the established soloist has written for and collaborated with a litany of artists including Ty Dolla $ign, YG, Iamsu!, Trey Songz, Jeremih, and Zendaya. When reflecting on his incredible career Bobby states, “People are seeing my name more and more, and they’re giving me a little more credit. I’m excited about dropping my own music and giving people the awareness that I’ve helped mold the new West Coast sound.”
