1st annual Akoo ‘Summer Classic’ to launch celebrating Dyckman 25th anniversary
AKOO Clothing Co. today announced, in partnership with The Dyckman Basketball Tournament and Hard 2 Guard Productions, that it will host the 1st Annual AKOO Summer Classic in celebration of the tournament’s 25th Anniversary. The 1st Annual AKOO Summer Classic, in true summer basketball tournament style, will feature three competitive games between the Dyckman team and squads from across the country, and will also feature a “Battle of the DJs” basketball game and a Community Day.
“We created the AKOO Summer Classic to celebrate the Dyckman tournament’s rich history and success,” said Sabai R. Burnett, vice president, marketing, RP55 Group/AKOO. “As a contemporary lifestyle brand we recognize and respect how intrinsically connected we are to the urban and basketball cultures, among others, and as such, this is one way for the brand to say thank you to the community for its support during the past six years.”
The first 1st Annual AKOO Summer Classic Dyckman vs. game is scheduled for this Friday, July 17—Dyckman vs. Chicago, 8 p.m. E.T., Dyckman Park.
The 1st Annual AKOO SUMMER CLASSIC
An NBA/NCAA sanctioned, Dyckman features some of the greatest pro-am players around—drawing at least a thousand spectators daily. The 1st Annual AKOO Summer Classic features three Dyckman vs. games, showcasing teams from Chicago, Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles.
“Battle of the DJs” & Community Day
DJs are a key part of the summer, outdoor basketball scene in New York City; they keep the crowd entertained, playing the day’s trending music, while blending in classics. The 1st Annual AKOO Summer Classic will take the DJs from behind the turntables and bring them onto the court in two ways—to actually play against each other, along side pro-am players, and in a center-court DJ Battle at half time.
Without the Dyckman and Inwood communities, The Dyckman Basketball Tournament wouldn’t be what it is today, 25 years later. The 1st Annual AKOO Summer Classic will host a Community Day, as a thank you, for the kids of the surrounding neighborhoods, featuring Skills Assessments, 3-Point Shootouts, and Dunk Contests.
