21-year-old multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and visual artist Elliot Moss released his stellar debut album Highspeeds on Grand Jury earlier this year. The record was recorded at Moss’ home studio and performed, produced, and mixed by himself with the exception of a few friends. Today, Elliot releases the video for his single “Slip” off of Highspeeds. The concept for the video was conceived by Moss and David Svedosh, who also directed the video.
THUMP premiered the video noting, “Director David Svedosh take a meditative take on a girl’s walk from the city to nature, where she promptly dives under the weight of the tune and is washed clean. The moody, soulful track tiptoes between so many sounds–indie, blues, chillwave, jazz–but wrought together electronically with an organic touch. Fans of Jamie xx and Chet Faker take note!”
Stereogum have described Elliot Moss’s sound, saying, “He uses keyboard, beats, and brass to whip up similar emotional whirlpools, and his subject matter is decidedly centered around heartache…And as you listen to Highspeeds further, the heap of influences that the 21-year-old draws from becomes more apparently varied. Throughout the record you get the sense Moss is experimenting with nightmares and fairytales, converting topics into songs at will. ”
Recently, I.aM.mE crew member, former So You Think You Can Dance star and YouTube phenom Phillip “Pacman” Chbeeb’s along with Renee Kester’s created a dance video to Moss’s song “Slip” with 24 million views combined between Facebook and YouTube. The viral video propelled his album back into Billboard’s Heatseekers chart and the song climbed up Spotify’s Viral chart.
Elliot recently played Eaux Claires festival and received rave reviews for his mesmerizing live performance. Billboard noted,“Moss was one of the festival’s youngest artists. But he showed rare maturity and dedication by letting his songs transcend normal genre constraints. For example, they’re longer than the average pop song; he played only eight tracks in a 45-minute set, and standout tracks “Slip” and “Best Light” last about five minutes each. Also, he writes, mixes, and plays his own music. On stage, a band of four musicians joined him; he seemed to stay in the zone during his performance. But after nearly every song, he genuinely thanked the audience for being there. He said, “We’ve been looking forward to this forever.””
Moss has also announced a run of US and European dates kicking off September 18th in Atlanta and wrapping up in Montreal in November. A full rundown can be found below.
