Official Hype: Cam B

I dare you to not cry. I dare you to not feel what love is when watching Cam B propose to his now wife. Sweetly serenading her to the very same song Jamie Foxx sang to Fancy at their wedding- she said “yes” and so did 226K+ people including the hottest man in R&B, Tyrese Gibson. The footage caught on video and uploaded to YouTube made doubters into lovers. With every vocal run, Cam B assures us adoration can be expressed with a simple melody. In no way is he content to be an internet sensation, a year later, Cam B is here to croon his way into your music rotation and make room for love. His new album drops this fall, just in time for cuffing season

As you see your self, who is Cam B?

To be completely honest all I am is a man who’s taking advantage of his voice. Not just meaning singing either. I have a message of love to spread to the entire world and I have been placed on a great platform to share it.

What brought you to the entertainment industry and music specifically?

I sang my first solo at age 4, it was Kirk Franklins, “The Reason Why I Sing”, so telling by that, you can see that music has ALWAYS been an important part of my life. It’s like a rush of excitement that comes over me when I hear good music. The thing that made it special for me in the beginning was always the reaction I’d get from people when I sang. Not to mention, that as I got older I realized how much of an upper hand my voice gave me with the ladies LOL

What and/or who influenced the sound you bring today?

I really have a unique sound I’d like to believe. But if I had to describe it I would say it’s like having old school R&B love songs with a more modern accompaniment to fit the times. I have always been influenced by one of my favorite performers of all time, Usher Raymond. The energy he brings to the stage is nothing like my generation has seen before, from a male at least. And the thing that I like most about him compared to other singers, is that when he has concerts, performances, etc. he sings LIVE!! I can’t stand when famous people lipsync LOL I’ve also always been a huge Tyrese fan! Which makes it even more amazing that he shared my video.

What’s happened in your career that makes you feel this is the industry for you?

Lots of things, it always seems like the right doors get opened for me…even if it’s the wrong one. I’ve made great decisions so far in my career and I’ve made some poor choices as well. But the thing that I believe separates me from other aspiring artist is, I always find something positive to take from every negative situation. I’ve learned so many things in this past year that I’ll be able to carry with me moving forward. Times where the normal person would have and probably should have quit, but when you’re hungry for something, and you want it bad enough, you’re willing to go through whatever it takes to achieve your goal.

What was the biggest obstacle in getting to your current career phase?

The most challenging thing I’ve gone through so far, is definitely the process of recording my album, “The 1”. Working with the multiple Billboard charting super producer Floyd “Timeless” Thomas, has been one of my best things that could ever happen for me.

When we first began recording my album, I quickly found out how much I was limiting myself vocally. There were bad singing habits I had to break, and new ones I had to form. It was a very difficult process but now that I’ve gone through it I can definitely see the change in myself. I’m Glad I stuck it out and was open to change.

What do you want people get from your music?

I want my music to make people feel! I have songs that will make you happy, I have songs that’s will inspire you, I have songs that will make you fall in love all over again, and so much more. There is literally something for everyone’s musical pallet on my album and just want the listeners to feel SOMETHING shen they listen, You Know? Wake you their emotions.

Tell us about your current project?

It’s been a longggg time coming, but my debut album “The 1” is finally set to release 4th quarter. I’m so excited to share it with everyone, as I’ve said earlier there is literally something for everyone to enjoy for every mood. I put my heart and soul into this project. Many long days, nights, redos, and just overall hard work! You can order it online on ITunes, Google play, Amazon, and SPOTIFY.

What do you feel has been your greatest life achievement so far?

My wife is everything to me. People ask me all the time, “how’s married life?” I always answer with “it’s the best decision I’ve made so far in my life.” There aren’t many people who are blessed enough to find someone who they are willing to spend the rest of their life with, especially at my age, 24. On April 18th, 2015 my life changed forever.

If you could collaborate with one artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?

I would love to collab with Tyrese. He’s one of the few people in the industry right now who I feel I can relate to as far as the message I want to spread. I feel we would complement each other vocally as well.

If you had to pick one song of yours, that really explains Y U, what would it be?

It would definitely be a song on my album called “I made it” it basically tells the story of how I came up from just regular Cam Brooks to the artist “Cam B” in what seemed like overnight. It’s a very personal song that lets you a little deeper into my thoughts. I know for a fact everybody is gonna rock with it!

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know…What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!” moment…

I’ll never forget, being 12 years old and LITERALLY going through puberty while leading a song in church! LOL, it’s like my voice LITERALLY changed in between singing my notes. I couldn’t reach them high notes for nothing! LOL but the kicker is how I thought something was wrong with me and started crying in the middle of the song smh. I think it scared me more than anything. But yea I was very embarrassed, and what makes it even worse is my parents have video and every time we have a lot of company it always seems to find its way to the VCR LOL.
