12565478_1104229122943922_2993136721751901862_nSteven “Knuckles” Nuckolls, born June 9th 1981 at Reynolds Army Hospital in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. He grew up in Lawton spending time between his parents’ home in the trailer park and his grandma’s house on the south side. He grabbed onto the street mentality and rap music at an early age. As a teen he became involved with drugs and drug dealing. At the age of 21 he was arrested and served 5 years in prison on 2 separate cases. While serving five years in prison Knuckles wrote songs about his life and his stay in prison. He also had seven poems published and was nominated by the International Society of Poetry for Poet of the Year. Since being released in 2008 he has turned his life from guns and drugs to seriously making rap music, taking his street name Knuckles to be his stage name. He writes and freestyles and enjoys all aspects of the genre. Some of his songs are written from life experiences and are from the heart, some are built off of wordplay and metaphors, while others are simply for the love of rap. He has been rapping since his early teens and has started taking steps into the industry through the persuasive talk of some of his family members who convinced him to take his music seriously.

From the outside looking in, who is Knuckles?

Knuckles is a Hard worker. A family man first. A bit of a weirdo. Half of two music worlds. Neither really that accepting of him. lol He attacks music the same way he does the rest of life, when he sees a vision is his head he does whatever needs to be done to achieve it.

What brought you to the entertainment industry, music specifically?

I first started rapping at age 13, but I have only been making music seriously and trying to get into the industry for a little less than 2 years. A couple of family members were key in my choosing to pursue this as more than a hobby.

Tell us about your current project and your ApolloNightLA “Artist of the Week” winning single “Oklahoma Horror Story”.

OHS comes of my second project, but first full length album entitled “City Streets, Country Roads” that will available on iTunes, etc., in May. It’s a track that I wrote to showcase my actual lyrical talent and ability as opposed to some of my music that is written more for the fans. It really is one of my strongest tracks though.

For new listeners, what song of yours would you pick as an introduction to you?

Oh Man. Anyone who knows Knuckles knows me for my single “Cowboy Boots and Shorts”. It has over 4.5 million views on the video. It kind of helped me establish the lane that I am currently trying to flourish in.

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know…What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!” moment…

My whole life could be described as “Where they do that at?!” Really though people are surprised to find out I am really streets and really country. I team rope and steer wrestle, but have also sold drugs and gone to the penitentiary. I never try to be anyone but myself, so where do they do that at??
