Actor rapper Ken Lawson joins season 2 of Bounce TV’s ‘In The Cut’ as Jay’s long lost son

Veteran actor Ken Lawson (@IamKENLThe Parkers, Steppin: The Movie, Malibu’s Most Wanted, In The House, joins season 2 of Bounce TV’s In The Cut as the surprise of a lifetime! Blasting on the scene lead character Jay’s (Dorien Wilson) 31-year old illegitimate son, the situation becomes hilarious cannon fodder for the exceptional heavyweight cast. However hilarious the presentation, it’s a scary real life possibility for a lot of older men who’ve “sown their young oats” and then moved on to create a completely new life. The balancing act of being funny while at the same time digging into something so life changing, is handled superbly by the cast and writers according to what I saw in the press screener.

PREMIERE ALERT

Large and in charge Jay Weaver (Dorien Wilson), an accomplished serial entrepreneur and barbershop owner, is changing the face of “fatherhood” in the second season of  Bounce TV’s highly acclaimed comedy series In The Cut. Jay’s life as a San Diego bachelor is abruptly disrupted when he meets Kenny Clark (Ken Lawson), his 31-year-old illegitimate son from a short-lived fling, who wants to get in on the family business. As these two attempt to get to know one another and build their relationship, Jay experiences a range of hilarious setbacks while trying to keep up with Kenny’s life. This season viewers won’t want to miss this father-son duo join in on a secret jailbreak, barbershop pranks and Jay’s growing attraction to Cheryl (Kellita Smith), the new co-owner of the beauty salon next store.

In The Cut premieres Tuesday, July 5th at 9pm and stars Dorien Wilson (The Parkers, Dream On), Ken Lawson(The Parkers),  John Marshall Jones (The Smart Guy) and Kellita Smith (The Bernie Mac Show, The First Family). The series was created by Bentley Kyle Evans and is produced by Evans and partner Trenton Gumbs.

Ken and I spent almost two hours together discussing his new role and how he related real life experiences of himself and his friends to his character “Kenny.” His character is also a combat veteran and that brings with it a whole other set of baggage, from my personal experience. That’s enough right there to make it #mustwatchtv for me this season…Aware folks might even be talking about this season of In The Cut like they talk Empire (Fox) or Uncommon Sense (MTV2). There is some real drama hidden in the guise of comedy here. Enjoy our conversation below…We absolutely could have gone on for a couple more hours…on a Sunday no less!
