Five Questions with Da Brat’s new draft pick Cornbread
Actor and recording artist Cornbread (IG @cornbread_flylife) may be a familiar face to you if you know anything about the exciting YouTube series “Reawakening” however, this young lion has now added his voice to the next up class of entertainers. Championed by Da Brat who hails from the same neighborhood, Cornbread’s music is disruptive and refreshing.
Cornbread’s single “Wit it” is a fun joint and a taste of what is predicted to be an awesome musical feast in his upcoming project.
Who IS Cornbread?!
Cornbread, aka Alexander Gonzalez, is a 21-year-old recording artist and actor from Humboldt Park, IL. He was raised in the North Lawndale area, K-Town.
Cornbread emerged internationally at 15 years of age when he launched his acting career on Reawakening, a very popular YouTube series. While filming, Cornbread was compelled to venture into music, and he recorded his first release, Turn Up. A double-threat as an actor and recording artist, social media took to the young artist, and his constant grind and hot songs received the attention of fellow K-Town native, rap legend Da Brat.
One of his more popular songs, RokkIt, has gone viral. It’s been buzzing on the Internet for two years and is still gaining momentum. Another song, “Be Jordan” that features D.I., is the next to burn up the airwaves and, according to fans and listeners, is sure to be one of Cornbread’s biggest records. His songs and their infectious lyrics and beats come as no surprise, given this young man’s motto: ”Meet me at the top. I’ve already seen the bottom, and there’s no going back!” So too, can be said about the artist and his vision.
With his unique yet superior swag and his ability to stay positive, despite his harsh and very real neighborhood surroundings, he has managed to separate himself from other artists with his attitude, outlook, and music. It should come as no surprise to anyone that this young artist is determined, motivated to keep completing new records, and blessing his fans, all while elevating himself.

Tell us about your current project and single Be Jordan!
Be Jordan came out of nowhere! Shout out to D.I. on the hook. I picked Be Jordan because everybody wants to be important in life but not out here grinding. Most of the people out here are followers, wearing things or getting stuff they can’t afford.
We’re working on my first solo album as we speak. I don’t have a title yet, but I got a lot of good records.
Do you feel your current project is the best introduction to you as an artist?
Of course! The people I’m with now are about business, and that’s all I needed. Da Brat and R Dot Fisher will make sure the music gets bigger and better.
What is the music landscape in your neck of the woods?
Everybody’s making drill music. I rather talk about females and money rather than guns and your gang behind you. I’m trying to have my own lane.
What’s on your horizon for 2017?
Drop my album and some mixtapes. Collab with the big artists get on a TV show or movie, provide for my family and go city-to-city… hotel-to-hotel…and stage-to-stage.
The Hype Magazine wants to know: What’s been your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?! Or “WTF?!” moment thus far in your career?
MAN… I got shot shooting a video for a song I did. That shit was the craziest moment EVER. I wasn’t doing nothing to nobody.
