Who Is G$Money Da General?
Apollo Night LA (@ApolloNightLA) “Artist of the Week” G$Money Da General (@gmoneydageneral) is a Southern Hip-Hop spitter whose story begins as a blessing to parents that weren’t supposed to be able to have children. For someone who “shouldn’t be here” he’s made huge strides in life and breaking into music with multiple mixtape projects to hitting the airwaves of Los Angeles’s hottest weekly live streaming radio show. We got in a few questions with the rising artist and this is what we learned!
From the outside looking in, who is G$Money Da General
Young entrepreneur that doesn’t care about getting misunderstood
What brought you to the entertainment industry, music specifically?
I’ve been involved with music since I was 13 years old but I knew I wanted to rap before I really understood what rap was! My mom was a preacher and she did allow that kind of music in the house but my cousins use to visit for the summer and they would sing biggie all the time….so I knew the words to songs I’ve never heard. I still remember those secret cyphers like it was yesterday
What do you want people get from your music?
Honestly I probably had a different answer on the last project but right now at this point in my life I’m making more of a “feel good”, self motivated, “turn up and get lit” kind of sound. I’ve found a way to blend lyrical content with a commercial, market ready concept
Tell us about your current project.
I’m currently prepping to release my latest solo project called “Born For This” which is a 5 song EP that puts my story in song form. This tape has my best music yet! I really pushed myself to become the best rapper and I think people will be able to get a good understanding of who G$Money Da General really is!
For new listeners, what song of yours would you pick as an introduction to you as an artist?
I have track called Make It Happen on the Born For This EP that breaks down the person that I grew into…but now that I think about it…I would honestly have to suggest just listening to the entire Born For This EP because the tape as a whole finally shows me as ME!
Tell us a bit about your work and passions OUTSIDE of music…
What people don’t realize with me is I do my own everything…I absolutely love photography! I’ve professional for about 7 years now along with videography as well as graphic design. I also have been a Dj for about 10 years. Oh yea and Ive been doing my own engineering on mixing my whole rap career.
Last but not least, HYPE wants to know…What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!” aka WTF?! moment…
Lol I love these kind of questions! I’m already a weirdo so I get asked that a lot with most of the things I do day-to-day but the most memorable I will say is the time that I rode on top of my car like a surf board while my homie drove! We drove all over downtown Charlotte, NC like that just because I felt like the most wavey person!Tweet
