Tyler The Creator Latest Project Flower Boy

The West Coast rapper, and leader of OFWGKTA, Tyler the Creator debuted at #2 on the billboard charts with recent LP Flower Boy.  He recently got in bed with Adult Swim to create a cartoon named The Jellies! after the success of 2012 to 2014’s Loiter Squad.  Tyler the Creator is clearly skillful satire, although sometimes distasteful, often agnostic and hom0phobic , Tyler the Creator may have turned over a new leaf.  This time the controversy has been over a reference to his sexuality.  In a recent interview with Koopz Tunez radio, he proudly declared  “I had a boyfriend when I was fifteen in f*****g Hawthorne. If that’s not open minded, I don’t know what is.” But aside from the usual awkward declarations, how does Flower Boy illuminate the independent rap scene.  Tyler the Creator entered the rap game behind hit single, “Yonkers,” a dedication to his native hip hop influencers of Brooklyn.  Extremely unorthodox, Tyler the Creator has a large fan base behind Odd Future.  Including a clothing line, Golf wang, and various Odd Future collaborations with Vans, or most recently Converse Oxford sneaker.

His acid hippy funk adds up to a trippy journey through Tyler the Creators abstract mind.  Odd Future includes fellow artist Domo Genesis, Hodgy Beats, Earl Sweatshirt, Frank Ocean, Casey Veggies, SYD, Jasper Dolphin, and Mike G.  Generally using his own production colleague Left Brain, Flower Boy is a quest for self- discovery.  His ambition and personal demons are all lyrically documented on the LP.  Despite being banned in both the United Kingdom and Australia for 3 to 5 years, Tyler the Creator scored top charting albums with 2015’s Cherry Bomb.  His adventure began in 2011 with album Goblin from which he received the MTV Video Music Awards for Best New Artist.  In 2013, Wolf catapulted him into stardom in a circus of California skaters, extensive tie-dye, camper hats, rave worthy sound systems, and the LSD psyche.  Tyler the Creator gets intimate on Flower Boy within his radical punk wave style of rap.

Tyler the Creator has been quoted on Brainyquotes.com as saying, “I’m not hip hop, I’m Tyler. I’m not a follower. I’m a leader. And anyone who speaks their mind is always criticized.”   Tyler the Creator seldom holds his tongue, for that he is changing the stereotypes in hip-hop.  In the end we see he is a paradox within rap music and society.  His creative nature fuels visions for the future of alternative hip hop.
