0Kevin Hart-approved: a new series featuring an under-represented Brooklyn neighborhood
For once, a neighborhood in Brooklyn that’s NOT Williamsburg is represented here… I’m working with New York comic Dan Perlman (truTV, MTV, JFL Montreal) on his new series that he created with Kevin Iso (Comedy Central Comic to Watch, Bridgetown Comedy Festival), a real GIRLS-era palate cleanser called Flatbush Misdemeanors.
It’s only got 2 episodes so far, but it’s already racked up a bunch of awards, including the “Best Ensemble” winner at Brooklyn Web Fest, and Kevin Hart included it in his LOL Network showcase at Just For Laughs Montreal 2017.
The characters of Dan and Kevin are introverts whose jobs, as a public school teacher and a restaurant delivery man respectively, force them to climb out of their heads and connect with others in the neighborhood of Flatbush, Brooklyn – a New York City neighborhood rarely depicted on television. The Laugh Button says: “A little dramatic, a lot funny, and very well written, Flatbush Misdemeanors gives a glimpse into the real Brooklyn that shows like Girls can only dream of capturing.”
In the first installment, actors like Jeffrey Joseph (In Living Color), Kareem Green (Russell Simmons Presents), Drew Dowdey (Night Train with Wyatt Cenac), and Keturah Wright in her debut as Zayna stole the show. In the second episode, the cast includes Aparna Nancherla (Master of None, Netflix), Yamaneika Saunders (Comedy Central), Kerry Coddett(MTV), and Kareem Green returning as Dan’s stepdad.
If you feel like sharing it, that would be super cool, and of course, Dan and Kevin are available for interviews. I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to see the rest of Brooklyn depicted in a series, even if it’s just on the small screen for now.
