The 24th Annual Taste Of Tribeca To Bring Top Chefs & Restaurants Together On Saturday 5/19

Giving New York locals the chance to sample the best dishes in town, the annual Taste Of Tribeca festival brings together more than 60 of Tribeca’s top chefs and restaurants. Benefiting arts and enrichment programs of New York public schools PS 150 and PS 234, the 24th edition of Taste Of Tribeca will be taking place on Saturday, May 19. Ticket holders are entitled to six tastes at the event — which takes place on Duane Street between Greenwich Street and Hudson Street — as well as one non-alcoholic beverage, in addition to two pours on the gathering’s Beer & Cider Tour.

This year’s lineup of participating restaurants is led by “the Golden Restaurants” — Bouley, Bubby’s, Duane Park Patisserie, Gigino Trattoria, The Odeon, Tribeca Grill and Walker’s — that have participated as part of Taste Of Tribeca since 1994. They are joined by five newcomers: Cajun-Creole cuisine favorite 1803, the Italian restaurant L’Angolo, Greek spot Greca, café and play space Love Bug Café Play, and modern Japanese robatayaki Tetsu. Typically is attended by more than 3,000 people.

Madeline Lanciani — founder, owner and head chef of the Duane Park Patisserie — told The Hype: “Duane Park Patisserie is one of the few remaining original participants. We are a neighborhood pastry shop, we’ve been here for 26 years. I am the founder, owner and head chef, also chief plumber, minor electrician and carpenter.” After a laugh, Lanciani continued: “I still live in the neighborhood. My kids were raised here and went to the local public schools that are the beneficiaries of the Taste Of Tribeca. In the old days, the organizing committee even counted the money in my basement!”

In terms of what to expect cuisine-wise from the Duane Park Patisserie at this year’s Taste Of Tribeca event, Lanciani gave a clear answer: “I make one particular desert for Taste Of Tribeca only. Warm molten chocolate cake with bittersweet chocolate sauce. I do not sell this in my shop because it is a dessert that should be served — and eaten — a la carte. So the one and only day to enjoy this delicious dish, literally right out of the oven, is Taste Of Tribeca.”

Another participant of this year’s Taste Of Tribeca is the Four Seasons Hotel New York Downtown. Executive Chef Shaun Acosta also spoke to The Hype. “We are excited to be participating in this year’s Taste Of Tribeca, for the second time since the hotel opened. It’s a wonderful neighborhood event that brings the entire community together!” As per what the Four Seasons will be serving to attendees? “This year I’ll be serving the latest dish to debut on our In-Room Dining menu just in time for summer: charred octopus with crispy pancetta, new potatoes and cherry peppers with aji amarillo aioli.”

On the adult beverages end, the 2018 Beer & Cider Tour will feature a top-notch lineup of New York State brewers. Confirmed participants include the Catskill Brewery, SingleCut Beersmiths, The Bronx Brewery and Brooklyn Cider House. Meanwhile, acclaimed lower Manhattan wine shops Chambers Street Wines, Frankly Wines, Tribeca Wine Merchants, Verve Wine and Broadway Spirits will all be offering complimentary tastings of specially-selected wines all afternoon on May 19th.

Beyond food and drinks, there will be plenty else for attendees of Taste Of Tribeca to experience. The soundstage will be presented by City Winery and feature performances by The Cynthia Sayer Band, Tribattery Pops and student musicians from the Church Street School Of Music & Art. The Kids’ Zone will feature Hollywood face painters, live demonstrations by Modern Martial Arts and BB Skate Club, and activity tables hosted by Craft Studio and Spotlight Kids. Manhattan Youth will be returning with their roster of ball games in the Sports Zone. In addition, there will be a Mashbooths photo booth.
