Interview With Music Producer James Worthy
Formerly signed to Sony Records, James Worthy has recently released a single titled “Move” which features a legendary artist by the name of Ecstacy from the Hip Hop group Whodini. While also producing & writing for other artists, Worthy went through his own ups and downs of the music industry from financial issues to industry politics.
Check out the interview with Grammy award producer, singer, songwriter James Worthy.
Jae Monique: What sets you apart from others in your field?
James Worthy: Integrity, authenticity, consistency, and creativity while believing in myself.
JM: Who are your biggest influences in music?
Worthy: There are many people that have inspired me musically, but the ones that stood out the most would have to be: A Tribe Called Quest, Whodini, Kanye West, and Frank Ocean to name a few.
JM: Tell me about your new single, “Move.”
Worthy: Well, it’s my second solo single which features Ecstacy of Whodini. It’s more of an R&B/Hip-Hop record with an island twist. I put Ecstacy on the song because I wanted to show people that it’s not always about putting the most popular artist on your record. It’s about who can make the song impactful for longevity and also it’s a huge honor for me.
JM: What does it take to be successful in your field?
Worthy: It takes determination, drive, and consistency in your craft. Not everyone is built for the business so you have to understand who you want to be to stay in it.
JM: What advice would you give to other music professionals who are just getting started in the industry?
Worthy: Just be you at all times. Never let anyone or anything tell you it’s not possible. There’s enough room for everyone, but you have to want it as bad as the next person.
JM: Is there anything else you would like me to know?
Worthy: My debut EP “Blu Leisure” releases in January of 2019. Make sure you purchase, stream and download it!
