The Dallas Mavericks are currently up by 16 points against the Washington Wizards at home with 7:20 left in the third quarter. Maverick shooting guard Wesley Matthew is leading the team with 17 points and two rebounds.  Dennis Smith Jr. and Luka Doncic have combined for 30 points, six rebounds and, five assists.

As for the Wizards, Bradley Beal is leading the way with 17 points, five rounds, and three assists. His backcourt mate John Wall 13 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Otto Porter Jr. has a solid game for the Wizards with 13 points, five rebounds, and three against the Mavs.

Before the game Wizards, head coach Scott Brooks share with me how they would attempt to rattle Luka Doncic throughout tonight’s game.

“I don’t know that is going to remain to be seen. We are going to have to play well and do the best we can to crowd him and shrink the court. Otto Porter is going to start on him and see if we can do a job there and not give any open looks. He is a knockdown shooter that extra distance that he has to shoot from he has already adapted well. Deandre is shooting nearly 40 percent. He is impressive every game you look at him sure this guy is only 19, said Brooks.

Brooks also shared his thoughts on Deandre Jordan’s hot start at the free throw line as he is currently shooting 82 percent.

“That is really impressive he has done a great job you can’t put him on the line unless he has you a bad position if Deandre Jordan is right around the basketball in the paint he can finish with either hand and can finish lobs.  When he is knocking the at 82 percent, you have to give him credit. He has obviously has worked on it sometimes it takes you a couple of years to get it down. He has been staying with it and that is an impressive part of his game.”

“Talented they have a bright future. Luka is the real deal he is definitely as advertised everyone has skepticism before him before he came over and how his athleticism would translate. He is a big player 6’6 crafty and smart, skilled, and he a real remedy for a future All-Star level. People are going to enjoy to see him play at an All-Star for a long time to come. The fact that he is playing right now as a rookie he.  is adjusting just fine. He is getting the freedom to do it, Said Austin Rivers.”

With the 2:37 in the four quarter the Mavericks are leading the Wizards by 16 points. Luka Doncic has scored 21 points, six rebound, and three assists. Wesley Matthew has 22 points and two rebounds, while Dennis Smith Jr. has 19 points, seven dimes, and four rebounds.

The Mavs benched dropped 30 points as, Dorian Finney-Smith, JJ Barea,  Dwight Powell, and Maxi Kleber all contributed.

After the game, Rick Carlisle talked about tonight’s defensive effort.

” I thought it was good. The bench picked us up. We got a bit of a slow start out of the gate in the second half, and the Wizards made a run, but we showed a lot of resilience, stuck together, stayed positive and made a push at the end, said Carlisle.

On weathering the second half run by the Wizards.

“It was just resilience and experience. The guys have been through some of this stuff together now, and that is meaningful. But it was also an understanding that it has to start defensively. Holding off their run started with stops io defense and then aggressive plays offensively. It has been a long time since we have won a game, and it feels good to win. But we have a quick turnaround with not much rest, and we look forward to getting back out there tomorrow.”

Harrison Barnes on tonight’s game.

” You know this season; it’s been tough for us. We’ve definitely had a lot of opportunities where games were close. But to be able to come out here tonight and put together 48 minutes and finally get a win, it feels pretty good,” said Barnes.

John Wall spoke about the issues on defense.

“Just not communicating we had good looks and shots. We did not turn the ball over a lot, which we did in the first couple of games. We had good looks the shots were just falling, and we did communicate during in transition. We were standing longer than we were supposed to and giving up threes in the first half. We were able to do a better job of defending it in the third quarter. We played with great intensity, and I feel like we had ten wide open threes we just missed, and still had a chance down six in the fourth quarter with five minutes left,” said Wall.

Wall shared his thoughts about Luka Doncic:

” Very talented and poised you can tell he has been playing overseas for a while. He is very poised for his age and doing a job scoring the ball in different places. Not very fast or athletic but knows to get to his spots and very crafty.”

John Wall on playing Dennis Smith Jr. For the third time in his career:

“Shooting the ball with confidence no matter if you miss or make just shooting with confidence. That is a key when you’re a player that is athletic and known for getting to the basket and things like that. You have to be able to knock down shots, and tonight he was in a comfort zone. Guys went under, and he was able to knock them down.”

Dwight Howard on playing Luka for the first time:

“I like him makes the right play 90 percent of the time, and he is going have an excellent career, “Howard told me.
