Tune In: Bobby Brown on QuestLove Supreme Podcast

On this week’s Questlove Supreme podcast, Team Supreme sits down with controversial R&B superstar Bobby Brown discussing his early years, how his career began to skyrocket, and all the experiences that got him where he is today.

Growing up in Roxbury wasn’t easy for Bobby – he calls Massachusetts the “most racially divided state, even to this day.” He lost his best friend to violence, leading him to aggressively pursue music as a way to get out of the neighborhood and start fresh. He briefly sold drugs, putting his demo tapes into “packages” to spread his music throughout the town. Eventually, Brown and his group at the time New Edition were discovered by manager Brooke Payne and so started his career.

When Bobby left New Edition, he worked tirelessly to create a successful solo career – although he admits to the Team Supreme he had a problem with being hours late to everything. His famous dance moves, along with hits like Every Little Step and My Prerogative, helped him soar to stardom. He even swears the dictionary changed the spelling of “prerogative” because of the way he misspelled it on the album.

A new edition of the Questlove Supreme podcast is available to listen to every Wednesday on Pandora right HERE.

Questlove Supreme is a weekly podcast hosted by Questlove, drummer for the Tonight Show’s house-band – The Roots, NYU Professor, and strategic ambassador and advisor at Pandora. New episodes are available on Wednesdays and run exclusively on Pandora. The show provides a combination of interviews, humor, pop culture and music. Consequence of Sound summed the show up as a “music junkie’s dream,” specifically for its “handpicked mixtape of Questlove-approved jams.”
