Sports Broadcaster & Entrepreneur Lindsay McCormick Talks March Madness & Filming Elevator Pitch Season 4
Lindsay McCormick is a sports broadcaster from Houston, Texas, whose career has taken her from hosting live events for Super Bowl XLIX to guest corresponding for Showtime at the most anticipated fight of the decade: Mayweather vs Pacquiao. She’s hosted the stages for Super Bowl Sponsor, SAP alongside Marshall Faulk in San Francisco, was a sideline reporter for the quarterfinals of ESPN’s The Basketball Tournament, and in 2013 hit the road with NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” as their Social Host. Lindsay hosted the 2012 NFL Draft for CBS Sports, “The Fan” on Comcast SportsNet, and was a panel analyst for “Rip City Live.” She also appeared on ESPN.com’s “Streak for the Cash” and “ESPN College Pick’em,” MtvU’s “The Dean’s List,” and on TopRank.com covering the Timothy Bradley vs Jessie Vargas fight. Lindsay appeared on the big screen opposite Shemar Moore playing a talk show host in the romantic comedy, “The Bounce Back.” And she can currently be seen guest judging on Entrepreneur’s “Elevator Pitch.”
Are you planning on being in Minneapolis to cover the Final Four this year?
LM: That would be a dream job. It’s the first time in history that my alma mater, Auburn, has reached the Final Four. I covered Auburn football when they played in the National Championship against Oregon in 2011 and was fortunate enough to do the sit-down interviews with the players. This would be another amazing future opportunity.
If not will you be in attendance as a fan?
LM: I don’t think anyone saw this coming. Only 0.5% of ESPN brackets had Auburn and Texas Tech in the Final Four. I had them in the Elite Eight. Sadly, I have a prior obligation in Los Angeles, but I will be watching and rooting them on from California.
What was going through your mind during the final minutes against both the UNC and UK?
LM: “Don’t pass out, Lindsay. It’s only a game.” The UNC game wasn’t as close. But after Chuma Okeke devastatingly left the floor, I had some doubts. The Kentucky game I knew would be a tough one. They had beaten Auburn twice during the season (with Okeke playing) and couldn’t figure out a solution for PJ Washington, so I was prepared for the worst. But the team rallied after the half to put together one of the greatest games in Auburn basketball history. It gave me chills and heart palpitations. These recent March Madness games have been nothing short of spectacular.
If you had to pick a final score against the Cavaliers on Saturday what would it be and why?
LM: It’s very tough to pick against Auburn after watching their historic run against perennial powerhouses Kansas, UNC, and Kentucky. So with that said I’m picking them to win by three. I like this matchup for Auburn as well. Virginia plays a slower game and tries to get the ball to their low post guys. Auburn loves a fast-paced game. As long as the Tigers can speed things up and force turnovers, the game will be in their favor.
What are some of the things that we could look forward to in business from you heading into the rest of the year?
LM: We are getting closer to the official launch of “Big Shot,” and ePlay Digital has been working hard on putting the final touches on the game. Also, we start filming Season 4 of Elevator Pitch at the end of the month, and I can’t wait to see what innovative ideas entrepreneurs will come up with next. I leave set each day completely inspired.
Where do you think the rockets will finish this season?
LM: I think it’ll be a hard-fought conference battle for the West, but ultimately I don’t see anyone beating Golden State.
Who do you have as your MVP between James Harden & Giannis Antetokounmpo?
LM: James Harden. As fantastic as Antetokounmpo and the Bucks have been, you can’t ignore the historic scoring output of Harden. This is true Michael Jordan level offense.
Rookie of the year: Luka Doncic or Trae Young?
LM: While Young has come on particularly strong the last few weeks, I think the triple-double machine that is Luka Doncic should win.
