August Burns Red Drummer Matt Greiner On The New “Guardians” Album, Farming & Metalcore

One of the most successful metalcore bands past or present, August Burns Red has just released a new studio album called Guardians. Yet another full-length release crafted for Fearless Records, Guardians is poised to be yet another Billboard Top 10 release for August Burns Red; the group has already scored 4 Top 20 debuts on the Billboard Top 200 chart. 2017’s Phantom Anthem also notably delivered the second “Best Metal Performance” GRAMMY nomination for the Pennsylvania group.

Guardians was recorded at Think Loud Studios in York, Pennsylvania — as owned by members of the band +LIVE+ — alongside longtime producers Carson Slovak and Grant McFarlandth. “Defender” was the first song written for the record, while “Bones” has served as a focus track. It is the eighth full-length overall for August Burns Red which is nearing its 20th anniversary as a band.

Current tour plans are up in the air for August Burns Red due to the current Coronavirus pandemic, but I had the pleasure of speaking with August Burns Red drummer and founding member Matt Greiner by phone on March 27, 2020. We not only spoke about Guardians, but also Greiner’s ventures outside of the band. And simply put, musicians rarely come as relaxed or pleasant as Greiner. Audio from the full chat is embedded for your listening pleasure, in addition to music from Guardians.

More on August Burns Red — which also includes guitarists JB Brubaker and Brent Rambler, lead vocalist Jake Luhrs and bassist Dustin Davidson — can be found online at www.augustburnsred.com.
