Who is DC Baby?

Who is DC Baby? He is an artist from Hinesville, Ga. He also spent a few years in Atlanta Ga., and Columbia Sc. DC Baby is known for his East coast flow mixed with a southern lyrical style.

The South Carolina native recently released his highly anticipated new EP titled New Money, presented by Baby Muzik Group. Produced entirely by Mantiz for The Block Symphony, DC Baby showcases his diverse talent, and relatable messages, suiting himself up for a rising career.

With his sound deeply rooted with classic southern roots, it’s only right that DC Baby’s music and sound mirrors the life he has experienced. Starting his love for music at a very young age, it was while living in Hinesville, Georgia that DC decided to take his music to another level and started writing and recording under the moniker DC baby. During his career, DC has won first place in the Coast to Coast artist showcase, first place in the Def Jam’s “Who’s Got Next” showcase, as well as secured an opening slot for such acts as JacqueesYella Beezy, and most recently Megan Thee Stallion.

Now adding “New Money” to his catalog, DC Baby is well on his way to seeing major successes in music. The new body of work finds DC Baby giving us catchy bars that are sure to capture the attention of many listeners. Producer Mantiz provided the perfect production for DC Baby’s street-savvy flow.

Where are you from and how did you fall in love with hip-hop?

I was born in Oklahoma, I grew up in Hinesville, GA. I fell in love with hip hop while riding around with my father in the car. He would always listen to LL Cool Jay, NWA, Ice Cube, and Tupac. He would always play his music loud. Like really loud. It was something about the way the beats hit that captured me.

Who are your musical influences?

Camoflauge, T.I, Jay-Z, and Young Jeezy

What’s the biggest blessing about being from the south and sharing raw stories from your life in hip-hop?

Nothing is handed to you down there, so you have to go hard if you want something. Hopefully, I will inspire someone to keep chasing for their goals.

You currently are working on your new EP, what inspired it?

During this time I was going through a transition in life, God was removing a lot negative and showing it was time for the new. While most people try to chase old feelings and dreams, I wanted to focus on the new. What better way to start than getting this New Money, hence the name of my EP.

What’s the biggest advice that you’ve gotten as an artist?

The biggest advice I received as an artist was to be original and independent. Invest in yourself or no one will take you serious in the industry. Scared money don’t make no money.

You prefer to stay independent or would you like to sign with a major in the future?

I’m always open to signing a major deal if the numbers are correct but at the moment I am enjoying the independent route. There is a feeling of gratitude when you do for yourself.

Anyone you want to work with artist or producers in the near future?

Artists would be DaBaby, Roddy Ricch, Megan Thee Stallion, and Black Zacc.

The producers I would like to work with are Dre, Timberland, JetsonMade, and I’m always looking forward to making more music with Jay Mantiz and The Block Symphony.

What’s next for you finishing 2020?

I just released my video “Flaw” and I have two more videos “Lavish” and “Always” that will drop over these next two weeks. I will be releasing another single “Messy”. I am hoping this COVID-19 pandemic passes soon so I can hit a couple of these stages and show some love to the people that are rocking with me. I can’t give y’all everything on the agenda, but I will tell everyone to stay tuned. This is only the lightweight portion.

Stream and listen to New Money below and stay connected with DC Baby here.
