0Beckerton’s Jenny Bates & Tony Lake On Their New “Unpacked Cases” EP, Future Plans & More
Beckerton is the new rock collaboration of vocalist Jenny Bates and GRAMMY Award-winning engineer Tony Lake. Formed from a jolt of budding relationship energy while in quarantine, Beckerton’s debut EP Unpacked Cases hits all digital music platforms on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 on all digital music platforms. But the roots of Beckerton go back to Bates and Lake chatting backstage at a mutual gig as the two both worked on a national tour of The Last Ship. And when the COVID-19 pandemic hit the U.S. weeks later, the duo made the impromptu decision to quarantine themselves in Brooklyn, ultimately helping make Unpacked Cases a reality less than a year after the two first met.
The studio credits of the aforementioned Tony Lake include Sting, Shaggy, Lady Gaga, Far East Movement, Jukebox The Ghost, Charlie XCX, and Mumford & Sons, in addition to touring across the world with Sting and Shaggy. He is also part of the rock band, Detroit Dreamers with Martin Kierszenbaum. Jenny Bates, on the other hand, performed, produced and directed throughout Southern California before finding success as a publicist and marketing director for some of the most well-known musicals in the world. Music and publicist aside, Bates has worked steadily behind the camera of JenEpiphany Photography, taking gig photos for many New York City performers.
On February 15, 2021, I had the pleasure of speaking with both Jenny Bates and Tony Lake via Zoom, as embedded below. We spoke about the aforementioned Unpacked Cases EP, future plans for Beckerton, musical influences for the two and plenty more.
