Saturday, Monday Collaborates With IMAN on New Single ‘Smooth Killer’

After collaborations with Hayley Kiyoko and Swedish House Mafia’s Steve Angello, Saturday Monday has already wooed the likes of Zane Lowe, Diplo and Robyn, and he returned earlier this year with ‘FWD’ ft. Björn Dixgård. Swedish DJ and producer Ludvig Parment aka Saturday, Monday continues to experiment with genre and technique in his latest single, ‘Smooth Killer’, brimming with attitude and featuring defiant vocals from IMAN.

Demonstrating an aptitude for bending genres to work in his favour, ‘Smooth Killer’ features a laid-back reggae rhythm section subtly warped by the artist’s signature contemporary production and IMAN’s confrontational vocals. Borrowing warm analogue tones from old dubplate recordings and glitchy percussion from Saturday, Monday’s electronic roots, ‘Smooth Killer’ stands out amongst his eclectic repertoire and showcases his diverse writing and arranging talent

Speaking about how ‘Smooth Killer’ came to be, he said, “when I made the beat for Smooth Killer, I had just gotten my MPC sampler and delay effect box back from repairs after they had been through a rough flight. I plugged the sampler into the delay and played around a little just to test the function on both machines and the backtrack for the song is essentially a result of that testing. Shortly after I had a session with IMAN and ended up bringing the beat, kind of on a whim because it was in a very early stage at that point. But she liked it and just did her thing with it and we leaned into that dub plate sound by recording through a very noisy tube amp and mastering the track on tape.”

‘Smooth Killer’ featuring IMAN dropped via Saturday, Monday’s label Despotz on the 19th February 2021. It is the first single promoting Saturday Monday’s upcoming mini-album “Irises” due for release on the 2nd of April.
