Spondulics Presents…Hip Hop FinFest – Volume 1: Save Your A$$ets!

Financial edutainment (education + entertainment) entity Spondulics TV, in partnership with Pockets Change and Hip Hop CommUniversity, announces their first virtual concert competition Hip Hop FinFest – Volume 1: Save Your A$$ets!,hosted by multifaceted artist-entrepreneur Dyalekt. On Thursday, April 8, esteemed hip hop veterans and experts—including Sway Calloway, Bahamadia, Derrick McKinney, and Genesis Be—will pick one lucky winner from top finalists during the Spondulics.org livestream event.

High school students are afforded the opportunity to utilize their rapping, singing, and songwriting skills for a good cause—managing money. Prior to song submission, a team of credible hip hop and finance educators will provide video content to students, equipping them with tips, tricks, and knowledge about financial literacy and intergenerational wealth. Songs could detail what money means to them and their communities, how to earn and save money, and/or how to multiply said source(s) of income.

An established panel of educators and musical celebrities will assess the submitted songs and select the following:

  • Top 10: Ten lucky students will have their tracks mixed, mastered, and placed on a digital compilation album distributed through Four Fingers Distro. The album will be released during Hip Hop Appreciation Week (April 15-20).  These finalists will also pre-record a live performance of their song to be aired during the live event!

  • Top Prize: During the livestream, a panel of celebrities and industry-heads will choose one grand prize winner based on both the song and performance. This student will win:

    • Trip for two to Orlando with $250 of spending money – June 1-3

    • Hotel stay (Omni Championsgate) – paid by Florida Prosperity Partnership

    • Onstage performance of their song (FPP Training Conference) – June 3

    • Two free tickets to Walt Disney World®

Various high schools and community-based organizations from across the nation will provide original artwork for the event and/or original beats for participants to rhyme over:

  • Here For Good Texas – Houston, TX

  • High School for Recording Arts – St. Paul, MN

  • Lindsay High School – Lindsay, CA

  • Mott Haven Community High School – Bronx, NY

  • Today’s Future Sounds – San Francisco, CA

  • View Park High School – Los Angeles, CA

  • Youth Design Center – Brownsville, NY

The event will incorporate other cultural and informative hip hop elements, some of which include:

The deadline for high school students to submit their original songs is Tuesday, March 30, at 11:59 p.m. PST. Finance expertise is not required, and there is no entry fee. All participants will gain access to mentorship opportunities from music and industry professionals.
