Richie Furay On His “50th Anniversary Return To The Troubadour” Album, Life During COVID-19, Future Plans & More
As a member of Buffalo Springfield, Poco and The Souther Hillman Furay Band, Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame inductee Richie Furay is undoubredly one of the chief architects of the country rock genre. Earlier this month, Furay released the live concert album 50th Anniversary Return To The Troubadour — released as both a double CD and download and as a single DVD concert film via DSDK Productions — as recorded with The Richie Furay Band at the iconic Los Angeles venue in November 2018. The release is comprised of 2 powerful sets: āStill DeLIVErin'” (including Buffalo Springfield songs, Poco favorites and solo career tracks) and āDeLIVErinā Againā (a front-to-back performance of Pocoās classic 1971 live album DeLIVErinā plus the band’s 1972 signature song āA Good Feelinā To Knowā).
This 2018 Troubadour show was truly a magical evening in many ways. The sold-out concert marked Richie Furay’s 50th anniversary return to the venue where Poco — originally as Pogo — performed its very first shows in 1968. The evening was marked by Eagles bassist Timothy B. Schmit joining Furay on the Schmit-penned āHear That Musicā from DeLIVErinā and the above-mentioned āA Good Feelinā To Know”; Schmit also introduced Furay on-stage. The evening also included the reading of a congratulatory note from director Cameron Crowe and a presentation of an award to Furay by esteemed artist and producer Peter Asher. Behind the scenes, also on-hand at the show and backstage was Randy Meisner, Pocoās first bass player before Schmit replaced him.
On April 9, 2021, I had the pleasure of speaking with Richie Furay via Zoom, as embedded below. Beyond 50th Anniversary Return To The Troubadour, Furay also opened up about life during COVID-19, why he lives in Colorado, when he started to view his musical endeavors as being part of a long-term career, and future plans.
