Whitesnake’s David Coverdale On The New “Love Songs” Album, Rhino Records, COVID-19 & More

Simply put, few rock bands have sold more albums than Whitesnake. But not everyone realizes that Whitesnake leader David Coverdale was internationally-renowned for close to a decade before Whitesnake scored an international hit with 1980’s Ready An’ Willing album, touring the world as part of Deep Purple. Thus, Coverdale has been a high-profile recording artist for close to 50 years.

On the forthcoming album Love Songs, Whitesnake brings together some of the most-passionate music of its multi-platinum career. A new collection that contains remixed and remastered versions of the group’s best love songs, it is the second release within the band’s “Red, White and Blues Trilogy.” A mix of hits and deep tracks that were originally released between 1987 and 2011 on 5 Whitesnake studio albums and David Coverdale’s 3rd solo album Into The Light, Love Songs will be released on November 6th as a CD ($14.98), as a double-LP set pressed on 180-gram red vinyl ($31.98), and via all major digital outlets. This series of compilations organized by musical themes began this summer with The ROCK Album (white) and is expected to conclude next year with The BLUES Album (blue).

Beyond this trilogy, Coverdale and Whitesnake have released a series of deluxe titles via Rhino Records. Earlier this year, Whitesnake released a 35th Anniversary Remix of the Slide It In albun as a 2-LP set on 180-gram transparent red vinyl. Last year, a 30th Anniversary Edition of the Slip Of The Tongue was also released via Rhino as 6CD/DVD collection which included a newly-remastered version of the album, unreleased studio recordings, audio and video of the band’s performance at the 1990 Monsters Of Rock festival, a new interview with Coverdale, and a 60-page hardbound book.

On October 15, 2020, I had the pleasure — and I do mean “pleasure” — of speaking with David Coverdale via Zoom, as embedded below. We discussed Love Songs, other possible releases via Rhino Records, life during COVID-19, how he manages to stay in top-form as a singer and a human being, calling Lake Tahoe home, future plans and plenty more. Additional info on Coverdale and Whitesnake can be found via www.whitesnake.com, facebook.com/Whitesnake.official and rhino.com.
