Her reflections on motherhood, the influence of mentors, and the pursuit of meaningful work underscore the importance of embracing one’s strengths and values.

Who or what inspired you to pursue a career in your chosen field?

Ever since I was a child, I’ve been enchanted by books and the power of writing. I enjoy helping people express their thoughts to their audience in the most engaging way possible.

Can you share a defining moment that shaped your career?

The leap to start my own business significantly shaped my career, offering satisfaction from a varied client base and preserving my independence despite offers to go in-house.

How would you describe your personal and professional values?

Understanding clients’ goals and providing high-quality services promptly is key. It’s about making people proud of their content, knowing it will connect with their audience.

What advice would you give your younger self?

It’s okay to take pride in your work. Discussing your strengths isn’t bragging but an essential way to build trust and confidence in your abilities.

What personal or professional achievements are you most proud of?

Being a mother to my children and maintaining client satisfaction through economic challenges are achievements I hold dear.

How do you manage stress and maintain a healthy work-life balance?

Working from home offers flexibility. My routine includes school runs, exercise, and quality family time, balancing professional focus with personal well-being.

How do you define success?

Success for me is about impacting lives, even in small ways. Making clients happy and providing stability for my loved ones are my measures of success.

Who is the one entrepreneur or business leader that inspires you?

Sadie Lincoln, founder of Barre3, inspires me with her focus on strength, endurance, and mindfulness over aesthetics, creating a welcoming and adaptive exercise culture.

How do you stay informed about industry trends and emerging technologies?

I keep up with content marketing trends and AI developments, attending events by Freelancer’s Union and similar groups to ensure my work remains top-notch.

Can you recall a significant challenge you faced and how you overcame it?

After not getting into graduate programs, I pivoted towards what I loved in writing, realizing the competitive atmosphere of academia wasn’t for me.

What is your approach to starting a new project?

I enjoy the initial client connection, understanding their needs, and aligning on goals and timelines to ensure project success.

How do you handle complaints, criticism, and feedback?

I view feedback as a chance to refine and recalibrate my work, welcoming it as part of the process to meet clients’ evolving project goals.

What upcoming projects or personal goals do you have?

I’m interested in developing a food blog, expanding my content creation into new, personal areas of interest.

What does your typical day look like, and how do you make it productive?

My day starts with family time and a brief workout, then I dive into projects. Lunch with my husband and afternoons for family ensure I maintain a balance between my career and personal life.

What’s one trend that excites you?

The quick adoption of AI technologies is thrilling. I see a valuable space for ‘human-powered’ content that truly connects with audiences, distinguishing it from AI-generated material.

What are the biggest challenges facing your business today?

AI presents a challenge by offering cheaper content creation options. It’s crucial to demonstrate the unique value of human-written content to clients.

Where do you see your industry in the next 5 to 10 years?

I hope high-quality writing remains valued, despite the shift towards AI. The industry must continue to appreciate engaging, well-crafted content.

What advice would you give to someone seeking a career in your industry?

Starting from scratch is sometimes easier than editing AI-generated content. Embrace originality and the unique perspective you bring to your work.

If you were to start over, what would you do differently?

I’d have more confidence in my ability to go solo earlier. Marketing my skills is essential, even if self-promotion felt uncomfortable initially.

Why is your city a great place to live and work?

Portland’s community support for small businesses and its walkability make it a vibrant place to both live and work, balancing professional ambitions with a rich personal life.

What would you consider your most significant career accomplishment?

I feel my biggest achievements are still ahead. I’m proud of my growth and excited for the future opportunities to expand my business and impact.

How do you like to spend your free time?

I enjoy cooking, baking, and reading. Exploring new recipes, immersing myself in novels, and outdoor activities with my family are my favorite ways to unwind.

Can you share a meaningful quote that inspires you?

Seneca’s advice, ‘It’s not what you bear, but how you bear it,’ reminds me to face challenges with grace. It’s about moving forward positively, no matter the obstacle.
