Jay Pareil: Music is Going Fully digital

The globally recognized rapper on why the digital world and the music world are merging.

Jay Pareil is a 26-year-old enigma on the rapping scene in Philadelphia. He emerged in 2019, aged only 24, when he released his debut single “Digital Math” in December. He had a hard time of it during his first year as a rapper, however, the reason for this is the same coronavirus that saw thousands of music venues across the US shut their doors for good.

Rapping Through Covid-19

While almost every business in America has suffered losses due to on and off closures, public fear, and an inability to crowd into public spaces. From Philly County to Chicago, thousands of bar people, servers, and DJs are having to write off the entirety of 2020 as a loss.

While all of this is going on, the artists, the singers, and the rappers just like Jay Pareil, have nowhere to turn to when they want to perform. This means they have no income, no prospects, and a completely blank calendar. When all seems lost, where do these performers turn? They go to the internet… to the global marketplace that billions of retailers recently turned to out of the same desperation.

Digital Music and an Expanding Scene

The world of digital music has been slowly growing for the last few years now… and we don’t mean music made on a digital keyboard, either. We mean the rise of such pay-per-music sites as Spotify or Apple Music. We mean in those bands that got together for rehearsal over zoom, who pestered their neighbors by performing endless repetitions of new tunes in their apartments. We mean the way that a musician could feasibly make enough money to live off, if they have a large enough library on SoundCloud.

The world of online music is growing. Streaming is the new CD, with YouTube videos the best way to subscribe to and follow your favorite artists. Jay has invested some time into official music videos to go with his honest, down-to-earth beats about life in Philly. Join his subscribers and follow new music to stay up to date. His videos, and those devoted to his career, have amassed hundreds of thousands of views between them.

You can also join Jay on Twitter if you like to keep it real.

The Future of Digital Music

Gen z are definitely the driving force for change in and around the digital music industry. They are going to be the tornado that rips apart old-school music systems. If they can find a way around the big studios, the will, and they are, and that’s where the future lies.

If you show enough people that they have the power to be musically successful rappers on an individual basis – with or without the support of a big named brand – then you can inspire a whole generation of youngsters, who never would have taken the leap of faith before.

That’s what Jay Pareil is doing for the music industry right now, and that’s what we can expect to see more of, in future… whether the virus continues or not.
