MC Jin x Wyclef Jean Unite in Support of the Asian American / AAPI Community With Powerful New Project “Stop The Hatred”

Trailblazing Asian American rapper, actor, and activist MC Jin and Grammy® award-winning artist, producer, and humanitarian Wyclef Jean have released their collaborative new video and song, “Stop The Hatred”. Inspired by the recent racial violence directed against the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities (AAPI), the anthemic new project champions an uplifting message of compassion and unity, and was originally sparked by MC Jin’s 8-year-old son Chance, who boldly shouted “stop the hatred!” into a crowd of thousands at a #StopAsianHate rally in New York City.

The video for “Stop The Hatred” was produced in partnership with The Asian American Foundation (TAAF) and directed by award-winning Vietnamese American filmmaker Bao Nguyen (ESPN’s 30 for 30 Bruce Lee documentary, Be Water) and filmed in NYC’s Chinatown. Featuring both artists as well as diverse representations of Asian culture and daily life within the community, the message of “Stop The Hatred” is one of love, togetherness, and building a new worldview in the aftermath of the pandemic. The final moments of the music video show the link to a page on TAAF that includes resources for reporting hate crimes (through Asian Americans Advancing Justice and Stop AAPI Hate) and bystander intervention training hosted by Hollaback!.

Widely recognized as the first Asian American solo rapper to be signed to a major record label in the United States, MC Jin was motivated to use his platform to help raise awareness after the devastating attacks against the Asian American communities this past year. Having previously collaborated with the iconic Wyclef Jean 20 years earlier on his debut single, “Learn Chinese,” Jin reconnected with his fellow artist/activist friend, resulting in the passionate and poignant song, “Stop The Hatred.” Not only is the project special for both Jin and Wyclef on personal levels, but it also symbolizes the importance of solidarity amongst all colors, ages, and stands as a dynamic emblem of allyship for the next generation.

“After witnessing the uptick of heinous hate crimes against the AAPI community, I knew I wanted to use my artistry to inspire this generation to take action in a way that has never been done before. To be able to reconnect with Wyclef for this song is not only special for me on a personal level, but also symbolizes the importance of solidarity amongst all communities during these dark times,” explains Jin.

Wyclef also emphasized, “Racism and hate against underrepresented communities can only be fought with unity. I’m proud to work with my brother, MC Jin, to build bridges for our communities through our music. We all need to be active in our fight to ‘Stop The Hatred.’”

The goal for “Stop The Hatred” is to create a safe, open space for peaceful conversation while raising awareness and generating active compassion globally. More importantly, Jin is also handing the mic to the next generation – giving them the chance to speak up and be heard.

With a message similar in spirit to Childish Gambino’s “This is America” or “Same Love” by Macklemore, this project is a moment for all communities to focus on the healing and spreading of love during difficult times. “Stop The Hatred” is more than a song and a music video: it’s a message to us all, symbolizing the importance of ending violence, galvanizing empathy, and celebrating diversity together.
