Swedish Songstress Johanna Kuvaja Turns Up the Heat on ‘Wanna Make Love To You’ Single

Hailing from Scandinavia, brazen and talented vocalist Johanna Kuvaja is gearing up to release her new single ‘Wanna Make Love To You’, and she has shared this well-kept secret with us, which we can share with you today. Already an established name on the entertainment scene in her native Finland, she has been making waves internationally since she debuted with her 2019 single ‘Shower’, conjuring up reviewer comparisons with Katy Perry and Kylie Minogue, followed by her sensuous ‘Back to You’ (think Madonna meets Christina Aguilera). Enter 2021, when all of us are really feeling the frustration of being in lockdown for a year longer than anyone originally anticipated. There’s a lot of pent-up energy and feelings amongst the population, so when you find that special someone in this climate – watch out! You just might explode with emotions. On Kuvaja’s forthcoming single ‘Wanna Make Love To You’, she does her best to convey those feelings to a certain Mystery Man, while keeping her cool. Word has it that the heat gets really high soon enough, when Kuvaja releases her new video, shot in Spain’s sun-laden Costa del Sol with Mr. Mundo (Mr. World) Dani Rivera (who has also modelled for Calvin Klein, Versace and Volvo advertising).

If the track weren’t enough (it certainly is, deliciously loaded as it is with Mariah Carey-styled goodness), we’ll have to keep our eyes on the game with Kuvaja and what she has in store with her forthcoming steamy video.

Written by Kuvaja, the single was recorded, mixed, produced and mastered by award winning London-based producer Sefi Carmel, known for his mixes for icons such as David Bowie, Phil Collins, Bruno Mars, Michael Buble, Massive Attack and Birdy. Kuvaja solely handled the vocal arrangements and also co-produced. While this song was completed over a year ago, the current pandemic had created multiple reasons for delaying the release until now. What can we say – it’s spring and, Covid or no-Covid, love is in the air.

Kuvaja, who has also appeared in Playboy Magazine, says “I composed this song when I was dreaming about experiencing a deep spiritual connection with someone. I realized that I had only had sex with men, not made love. Billions of people have had sex. I don’t know how many have actually made love? Making love is an art, created by two people with deep feelings for one another. It’s a giving behavior with commitment and care.”

Johanna Kuvaja debuted her ‘Shower’ single in August 2019, which saw her dubbed as Finland’s Sabrina and also drew comparisons to Katy Perry and Kylie Minogue. This was followed by ‘Back For Good’, with reviews recalling Christina Aguilera and Madonna, and then ‘Shower (Janne Hyöty Remix)’, created by multi-platinum awarded producer Janne Hyöty, whose songwriting accounts for over 40 No.1 releases (including on ‘ARASHI 5X20’, the world’s best-selling album of 2019).

Since 2019, Kuvaja has numbered among Finland’s leading public personalities in terms of media coverage. Her music has been played on radio in over 60 different countries and has charted, both nationally and in select European and Asian countries, for as long as 15 weeks in the case of her debut single.

“It was such an exciting experience to travel to London to work in the studio with Sefi, who mixed my ‘Shower’ song and made it a hit back in 2019. I had the flu when we were recording, so Sefi offered me a lot of Whiskey when I was in the recording booth. No wonder I managed to sing all the low dude sounds in the bridge,” laughs Johanna Kuvaja.

A trained music teacher, Kuvaja has a long history of collaborating with various renowned Finnish musicians, winning music writing competitions, touring the country as a duo, folk and pop orchestra, and performing on the nationally broadcast’ ‘Finnish Star’ TV series. She eventually studied TV-performance and music at university, earning her degree and becoming a certified music teacher.

With a vocal range of five octaves, she learned piano from the age of 6, had entered the conservatory by 10, picked up violin and Finland’s national instrument, the kantele, and was part of an ensemble that won the Finnish Championship at the Folk Music Festival three times over. After TV performances and touring, she won her first songwriting competition, leading to more such events, including the Eurovision song contest.

“When things fell apart in my life, I was led to find my true purpose. Writing music brought me joy and cured me from depression. Sometimes music really is the only medicine the heart and soul need. Music is my way to express myself and process my thoughts while being creative. I decided to take a leap of faith and follow my passion,” says Kuvaja.

As of May 14, ‘Wanna Make Love To You’ will be available digitally across online music stores and streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music.
