Prado Keeps It Sweet, But Sinful on Debut ‘PRADO MONROE’ EP

Born in Vancouver, Canada on the unceded territory of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations, rapper-producer Prado is a fearless voice for Indigenous women in hip hop. Mixing her sharp-toothed songwriting with chaotic pop meets lo-fi rap production, Prado is making a lane all for herself. And as the sole songwriter and co-producer on the majority of her music, she is quite literally making a lane all for herself.

Prado just dropped her debut project PRADO MONROE EP via tmwrk records. Featuring previously released singles “STEPHEN,” “MEN IN BLACK,” and “GUCCI STORE,” PRADO MONROE EP is 6 tracks of unbothered, bad b*tch energy. If there’s one thing about Prado we know, it’s that she isn’t afraid to tell it like it is, rapping, “I don’t give a f*ck if you like me, Stephen!” on “STEPHEN” to “Men in Black are sluts, no lie” on “MEN IN BLACK.” I think the best way to describe Prado’s lyricism is that she’s captivatingly sweet with an edge of sardonic humor. Her power lies in her dynamic musical instincts, savvy songwriting skills and unwavering ‘do as I will’ energy. And that’s exactly what she’s bringing across PRADO MONROE. The unreleased “LOUIS TEE” is the track Prado is most excited for people to hear – she’s on some real experimental pop meets Atlanta rap tip. It just has this whimsical essence to it, even though she spends most of the track spitting quickfire, autotuned bars. “LIKELINE” takes her pop grandeur to new heights and proves that she can easily do both rap and pop without skipping a beat.

Prado chose to release her EP on June 18th to align with the Juneteenth holiday. Writing, ““I’m happy my debut EP PRADO MONROE is dropping June 18th one day away from Juneteenth. Juneteenth is a day that stands for the emancipation of enslaved black people, the liberation of and freedoms of black people in America. I will be doing a live stream fundraising and selling Prado masks with 100% of proceeds going to the Vancouver Black Therapy Fund. In Canadian music there are so many black artists and activists that I want to celebrate on this day and the freedom of making our art and the confidence this EP gave me. The live stream fundraiser will be featuring performances from local black artists: VOT, Quarterback, NIVRAM, Zuleyma and myself.” – Prado
