Jonte Wells- Shares 3 Life Lessons That We Can Learn Through Sports

Nurturing compassion in minds through the hoops of life. Greater Purpose Athletics is the multi-sport athletic facility that is empowering young athletes to be prepared on the court and in life.

Loyola University – Cameron Krutwig

The Federation of International Basketball Associations (FIBA) estimates that a minimum of 450 million people play the sport of basketball around the world, be it recreationally or through structured competitions. Although there are few better feelings than taking home a win, there are much more to sports than simply ‘winning’. Beyond the skills of the sport, it requires mental toughness, resiliency, teamwork and dedication.

The founder of GPA, Jonte Wells often speaks about how the skills of the sport are necessary in life. The Greater Purpose Athletics facility was specially designed to combine elements of his life experiences into a polished training regime to help others hone and nurture the skills required to take home a win – on the court and in life. See below for the top 3 skills Wells believed will be most beneficials to his members as they continue on their life journeys:

Team Work

Basketball is a team sport. Although each team member is individually skilled, the success of each player is dependent on the performance of other team members. When teammates learn how to work together towards one common goal, they have the potential to create a solid team with synergy that is noticeable on the court. All it takes is a moment to realize that you carry the legacy of many other people on your shoulder and one careless move can change the entire outcome.

At GPA, Jonte and his team of experts in the field nurture the skills of their members to build traits like trust, empathy, care, and compassion through their life experiences and time in the field. The facility offers a full-size basketball court, three shooting stations (7 total hoops), turf, weight room, multipurpose room, parent lounge area, and recovery room. These amenities well equip the members after training, and are ready to face the challenges they face on and off the court.

Patience

Patience is a virtue that is much needed during any game. More than the skill of agility and speed, patience is a necessary skill one will need to have throughout life, and when in the field, needs to have patience for plays, and the willingness to accept whatever the end results are.

Be it winning or losing, emotions can run high but to maintain composure, even after failure does one emerge victorious in the game of life. Members of GPA are trained to act under pressure with consideration of others, a key skill that will carry them through life. Wells created this facility to bring a positive impact into the lives of people in his community and fulfill the needs and dreams that many do not have access to.

Dedication

Achieving ambitious goals is never as simple as it sounds, or as others make them out to be. Full commitment, dedication and hard work and a plan of action are just a few of the most important steps you need to get a sense of whether something is attainable  In the same way, basketball is a sport that cannot be mastered without the implementation of a well planned and practised strategy both individually and with their team.

At GPA, Wells aligns the goals and practice of basketball in the same pathway to bring about enormous success and give the members a way to build these skills that are undeniably necessary at every stage of life. Let the facility speak for itself and book a tour today.
