Who is Dr. Trev Thomas?

Celebrity dentist Dr. Trevor Thomas shows the meaning one smile is worth 100 pictures. Dr. Thomas has trailblazed a great start as a Doctor of Dental Surgery, obtaining an education from Howard University. He is also the president of Corona Hills Modern Dentistry, an establishment that offers cosmetic, implant, and full mouth rehabilitation services to patients. Together, with his team of trusted associates, Dr. Trevor Thomas treats all things dental and oral healthcare, ensuring that every person who visits their premises leaves with a genuine smile. He gets his confidence from a turbulent background and different experiences that showed him the importance of resilience as an individual.

Hype: Where are you from and what made you pursue your profession as a dentist?

Dr. Trev Thomas: I’m a country boy at heart, born in the town of Douglas, Ga. My father works in law enforcement and my mother, a nurse. Their careers  encouraged me to enter a career in public service. Dentistry affords me the opportunity to developing lasting relationships with my patients while at the same time educating them on the mouth-body connection.

Hype: How important is teeth health for entertainers?

Dr. Trev Thomas: For anyone, smiles are contagious. A health smile can captivating. This is especially relevant to those frequently behind the camera and in the public eye. Your smile is an accessory you always wear, why not keep it polished!

Hype: What are some methods you can utilize to prevent early gum/teeth issues? 

Dr. Trev Thomas: The most important rule is to follow the basics visit your dentist every 3-6 months and brush and floss 2-3x a day minimally.

Hype: From your observation as a dentist, what are some trends that we as African Americans share when it comes to our oral health? 

Dr. Trev Thomas: Unfortunately, we often don’t receive equal opportunity to education on the importance of teeth and gum health in relation the systemic health. There are strong correlations between food we traditionally consume, the associated bacteria they may attract, and diseases and likeness found in our communities. I encourage us all to seek a dentist we trust… and ask all the questions pertaining to maintaining proper diet and promoting optimum oral health.

Hype: Do you have a hip hop playlist that gets you prepared for a long day?

Dr. Trev Thomas: My patients are the DJ. I “hand over the aux” before each surgery. Otherwise we’re jamming to some 90’s R&B, the lit vibes, yet still professional.

Hype: What does success mean to you? 

Dr. Trev Thomas: Leaving a legacy that my son can be proud of and hearing “Job well done” one day from God. I want to positively impact the lives of his people.

Hype: What habits can we avoid to ensure that we maintain optimal teeth/gum health?

Dr. Trev Thomas: The biggest realistic changes… inconsistent brushing, not flushing, not brushing before bed… and honestly, smoking is a big one.

Hype: Any toothpaste/mouthwash routines that you can share with the youth? 

Dr. Trev Thomas: Yes, more so for parents:

  1. Start Early. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends starting brushing at 6 months or when the first tooth sprouts. …
  2. Make a BIG deal about the toothbrush. …
  3. Toothpaste with Taste. …
  4. Follow Me. …
  5. Pair brushing with fun. …
  6. Read books about brushing. …
  7. Reward.

Hype: What are the expectations/standards that  you have for your clients?

Dr. Trev Thomas: I’ll approach every treatment plan with the best intentions. I am not perfect, but I do everything In my power to achieve their healthcare goals. If I’d do it on you, I’d do it on my family member!

Hype: What’s next for you?

Dr. Trev Thomas: Expansion! I want to continue training highly competent and skilled minority healthcare professionals to increase access to dentistry to those underserved.
