WALE SHARES NEW SINGLE + ANNOUNCES FOLARIN 2

WALE TAPS YELLA BEEZY AND MAXO KREAM FOR “DOWN SOUTH”

LISTEN HERE

FOLARIN II COMING SOON!

Today, Wale teams with Texas rhymers Yella Beezy and Maxo Kream for the relentless new single “Down South.” The nostalgic track is built around the DC rhymer’s dexterous wordplay, a distorted violin sample from a Houston classic, and the guest stars’ ferocious verses. Listen to “Down South” HERE.

Down South” looks back to some of Southern rap’s most memorable hits, repurposing a sample of Mike Jones’ “Still Tippin’” while interpolating UGK’s Master P and Fiend-assisted “Slangin.” Wale uses this canvas to dispel glamorous images of street life as he spits about the downsides of life as a trapper: “In the ’90s, a traffic stop get you tickets, a joke/Now they find you at traffic stops you get riddled with holes.” Beezy and Maxo take a street-level approach to, the former evoking pure menace and the latter oscillating between aggression and reflection. Maxo concludes his verse with a chilling observation: “Ever since my bro got killed, I can’t trust shit, I can’t trust nothing/Can’t even trust my Crips, because a Crip killed Nipsey Hussle.”

As he readies the long-awaited follow-up to his classic Folarin album, “Down South” continues Wale’s tradition of crafting memorable bangers as he blends thoughtful lyricism with the taste of a master curator. The song is a follow-up to “Angles,” a swaggering, Chris Brown-assisted single laced with intricate wordplay and an anthemic hook. “Angles” is well on its way to becoming another top charting hit at radio. His sixth studio album Wow… That’s Crazy spawned the #1 single “On Chill” featuring Jeremih, which received a 2020 BET Award nomination for “Best Collaboration.” The Grammy-nominated artist’s list of accolades and accomplishments grows every year. He’s covered magazines such as Complex, Billboard, XXL, and Vibe, and has received honors at the BET Awards, BET Hip-Hop Awards, Soul Train Awards, and more. To date, Wale has achieved six platinum or multi-platinum singles, three gold singles, and two gold albums. With songs like “Down South” at his back, his list of accolades and the loyalty he’s secured from his fans only grow.

Aside from music, Wale has tapped into acting and has been featured on the Starz hit show American Gods and will star in the upcoming Michael Bay film Ambulance. In connection with the WWE, the lyricist has also collaborated with Foot Locker and Footaction for his annual WaleMania which merges music, sports, fashion, and entertainment.

ABOUT WALE: There’s only one Wale. Since arriving in 2006, he has consistently gone against the grain. An old school lyricist with new school energy, otherworldly hooks, and a sense of irony tailormade for its own Seinfeld episode, he instantly set himself apart. 2008’s inventive Mixtape About Nothing cemented him as a critical favorite and preceded his 2009 major label debut Attention Deficit. Bowing at #2 on the Billboard Top 200, the now-classic and gold-certified Ambition yielded the GRAMMY® Award-nominated, platinum-selling “Lotus Flower Bomb.” Two more blockbusters followed as The Gifted [2013] and The Album About Nothing [2015] both crashed the Billboard Top 200 at #1 back-to-back. Wale continued to drop heat on Shine [2017], which gave the world the RIAA certified platinum “My PYT.” The release of Wale’s 6th studio album Wow…That’s Crazy spawned the #1 double-platinum single “On Chill” ft. Jeremih, which received a 2020 BET Award nomination for “Best Collaboration”. Along the way, Wale performed for NPR’s Tiny Desk concert and The Daily Show with Trevor Noah. He’s covered magazines such as Complex, Billboard, XXL, and Vibe, and would receive honors at the BET Awards, BET Hip-Hop Awards, Soul Train Awards, and more. To date, Wale has achieved six platinum or multi-platinum singles, three gold singles, and two gold albums. Wale has over 7 million monthly listeners on Spotify and has reached over a billion channel views on YouTube.
