Live Session With Grammy-Winning Producer Swagg R’Celious

Oh yeah! We go behind the veil on this one as celebrated and Grammy-winning producer, songwriter, and vocalist Swagg R’Celious takes us on a journey that covers his early career, his Grammy win with H.E.R., additional Grammy nominations, as well as his work with the inimitable Kehlani whose debut mixtape Cloud 19 was just released to DSPs for the first time ever this year. Not often do we get to really step into the world of one of the most prolific, impactful, and diverse creatives in the music business but he let us in and even brought along his newborn for the ride!

Swagg played a monumental role in the growth and award-winning sound of H.E.R., taking home a Grammy win for Best R&B Album (2018) and 4 additional Grammy nominations. He has written and produced on tracks with many artists in his career, such as H.E.R., Kehlani, Alicia Keys, Ne-Yo, Snoh Aalegra, and many more and he’s signed by Sony/ATV.

GRAMMY WINNER:

  • BEST R&B ALBUM (2018) – “H.E.R.” BY H.E.R.

GRAMMY NOMINATIONS

  • ALBUM OF THE YEAR (2018) – “H.E.R.” BY H.E.R.

  • ALBUM OF THE YEAR (2019) – “I USED TO KNOW HER” BY H.E.R.

  • SONG OF THE YEAR (2019) – “HARD PLACE” BY H.E.R.

  • BEST R&B SONG (2019) – “COULD’VE BEEN” BY H.E.R.

Among his other activities, Swagg is an Ambassador for the Recording Academy’s newly established Black Music Collective – an advisory group of music leaders who speak openly about new and emerging opportunities in Black music and identify ways to drive Black representation. This collective is dedicated to the inclusion, recognition, and advancement of Black music and its creators and professionals. Swagg is a true believer that music can empower people and always uses his voice and platform to uplift others and serve as a role model, especially for the Black youth.

Just like he did in our conversation, Swagg shares his knowledge and expertise with scholars interested in the music industry as a teacher at NYU & Berklee College Of Music. Totally making sure he does his part to inform and inspire the next generation.

One of the fun things we talked about was Kehlani’s debut mixtape “Cloud 19”, orchestrated by Swagg, which went on to be recognized as one of the best RnB albums to have dropped in some time being released on all streaming platforms for the first time ever this year.

Ok, I could type about this guy for hours and STILL not hit everything, so just tune in to our conversation below!
