YNG Zuck Premiers Three Unreleased Songs at For The Stars Fashion House

Jacob Meir’s world-famous For The Stars Fashion House threw its annual star-studded Valentine’s Day red carpet party this week, and the stars came out in droves. Hundreds of celebrities, super models and musicians were in attendance, including Akon, Pink Floyd’s Scott Page, Death Row Records’ Chris Taylor, and Urban Pop newcomer, YNG Zuck, who played several unreleased songs from his highly anticipated upcoming full-length release, Expensive Taste.

YNG Zuck’s performance included Vibin’, Loose Ends, and the title track, Expensive Taste, which brought the house down. Zuck was joined by Expensive Taste collaborator, Platinum Award Winning Recording Engineer, Emmanuel Aluko (King Luko), who has collaborated on megahits like Popp Hunna’s Multi-Platinum® smash, Adderall (Corvette Corvette).

Zuck hasn’t slowed at all since dropping his 2020 full length, Corporate Sellout, releasing several high-profile singles in 2021, including “Strike A Pose,” “Get Right,”“Can’t Talk,” and “What It Do?,” racking up millions of plays on digital platforms in the process. His newest release, “HD” was released on February 11th 2022, to much fanfare.

Hype caught up with YNG Zuck, after the show, and asked him some questions about the event, his performance, and of course, his upcoming album.

Tell us about your outfit. You look incredible, and that jacket is wild.

Thank you, thank you. I really appreciate that, but have you seen everyone else running around here tonight? *laughs* …but, seriously, I am so humbled and honored to be working with Jacob Meir, who is a living legend in the fashion world. This jacket I am wearing is part of Jacob’s collection, and it is probably the nicest jacket I have ever worn. This collection has been worn by Michael Jackson, Prince, and so many others. Jacob is so talented, and I am always so humbled that he chose to work with me. Standing right here, I can see outfits worn by Jason Derulo, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, Jennifer Lopez, and that whole collection over there is from America’s Next Top Model. Being in the company of that makes you want to work harder and be better. The energy in this fashion house is like nothing I’ve ever felt before.

What’s it like to be in the company of such legendary talent, and having to perform for such an intimate crowd?

I didn’t really have a lot of time to think about it, to be honest. I was wearing Jacob’s (Weir) outfit, so the red carpet was crazy, and of course, all the interviews there, so by the time I actually got inside, it was show time. It was a little intimidating, right before hitting the stage, because when you look out into the crowd and you see so many people that have inspired you, it makes you want to really give them a great show. The second the show started, all of that went away, and I just did what I always do, which is give them the best of me. It was awesome to perform these new songs for the first time, and to see so many people really enjoying them. Tonight was definitely a movie.

Tell us a little bit about your upcoming album, Expensive Taste.

Expensive Taste came out of nowhere, both the album and the single. I had originally planned to keep releasing singles this year, but my manager convinced me that I should release a full-length, which worked out really well, because it made me write more, and since I was forced to look at this collection of songs as an actual body of work, and not a single release, it made me a better songwriter.

You said the song and album came out of nowhere. How did that come about?

My manager and I were in the studio working with my engineer Luko, and I had about an hour left in me, for a session that had already run way over. I had this track I was working on, and decided to just freestyle for a bit, to see what would happen, and Expensive Taste was what came out of that. Lyrically, it was a combination of several songs I was already working on.  I took a little from each of them, and freestyled the rest. 30-minutes later, the song was completely done, and to this day, I still couldn’t tell you how I did it. It ended up becoming my favorite thing I had done up to that point. Before we left the studio that night, we had decided that Expensive Taste would be the title of the album.

Can you tell us anything else about the album?

Uhhhh… I don’t want to give too much away, but you guys heard a few of the unreleased songs tonight. I am just creating records that make me feel alive, and that I think people will be able to relate a lot to. Loose Ends is another one of those songs that I just knew was going to make the album, because of how much it made me feel when I was creating it. I am doing some really crazy collabs that I can’t wait for everyone to hear. Madonna is a killer Pop/R&B track that I did with Max Louis, who is insane behind a mic. I have another collab that will be on the album, with my good friend Xammy, who is really talented as well. There will be a couple other collabs, but I can’t talk about those just yet.

When is the album dropping?

We don’t have an exact release date yet because I have a few loose ends to tie up first. *laughs* I am going to track another 4-5 songs, and then figure out exactly what is going to be on the record, and where. After that, we are gonna tighten everything up, and send it out for mixing and mastering. I promise it will be worth the wait though. I’m really proud of these songs. I promise, you, Hype will get a sneak peek before the album drops.
