Canyon Changes the Pace on “FRIENDS”

Canyon is a fast-rising creative looking to make a splash in the music industry. The NY to L.A. transplant is looking to show his versatility on his newest single, “FRIENDS.” The feel-good single is good vibes all the way through. The eccentric chorus draws in listeners with fun lyrics like “I like you, you-you know you you-you no pretend.” Canyon’s latest single is inspired by War’s hit single “Why Can’t We Be Friends.” The California resident sings about finding a best friend and lover within the same person.

“When I’m asking “why can’t we be friends?,” I mean in addition to romantic partners. So the song is essentially saying, just because I love you romantically, that shouldn’t prohibit us from hanging out and having that additional friend relationship..”

Canyon is a well-rounded artist who prides himself in expressing raw feelings with music. His previous work has been compared to artists like MF DOOM. “FRIENDS” is more in line with creatives like Kid Cudi, Mac Miller, and Tyler, The Creator. The bouncy production pairs well with his heartfelt tone. Tracks like “FRIENDS” have more mass appeal than his previous releases.

“FRIENDS differs from IN THE PAINT because it bends genres. I’m still not sure if this is a cloud rap song, a bedroom pop song, an indie track, an anti-pop song, or something else. Maybe it’s all the above. On “IN THE PAINT, “I showed my fierce side, but on “FRIENDS,” I’m showing a thoughtful side and that I can also sing. I think through my first three releases, the feedback I’ve gotten is that people like my raspy voice and tight, aggressive flow, but on FRIENDS, I’m showing that I have a lot of range.”

Although Canyon lives in California now, he has not lost his connection to his N.Y. roots. The visual for “FRIENDS” features vastly different energy than his last single, “IN THE PAINT.” The poignant mini-movie is beautiful and was directed and shot by Gio from the Box Boys. The Box Boys are building an impressive resume as of late.

Today, Canyon looks to uplift and help fans learn what to look for in a significant other. As he prepares for his upcoming album, MEANWHILE, the rising artist hopes his output will wow fans. The upcoming L.P. features legends like Raekwon, Jadakiss, Slim Thug, Big K.R.I.T., and many more. The album boasts some well-known acts while also shining a light on some talented budding artists. Canyon is excited to bring a new wave into the ever-changing industry.
