Exploring the Artistic Mind of Antonio Kanin

The Artistic Mind

Today’s music industry is at a pivot point, gone are the days of “good music” being good enough. As different ways of interacting and monetizing music arises, new technologies and a “Hustlers Mindset” has made the music industry’s growth unprecedented. Especially within the Hip Hop genre, and Antonio White, famously known as multitalented rapper and producer Kanin fits that mold to a tee.

Influenced by musical legends like Bob Marley, Tupac, DMX, and Curtis Mayfield. He believes that Hip Hop is more than just a genre, but more of a musical experience that is authentic and grounded in reality. In retrospect Kanin is the type of artist that actually defines Hip Hop in it’s true essence. With the mindset of an executive and the talent of a star, he’s bound to be your favorite rapper.

Seriously, this guy got something special about him

Kanin’s, “Me against the world” attitude and his “I will not lose” mentality is what hip hop embraces, it takes these artistic elements and transforms them into a genre filled with transcending emotions. Kanin invokes these emotions in every bar that he delivers. Often known amongst his inner circle as being “uniquely wired,” he was never afraid to bend the rules and push his limitations.

Born and raised in Compton, California, Kanin witnessed street life up close and personal. Never a stranger to loss or life’s setbacks, he chose to use people’s doubt as a driving force to succeed. Kanin’s passion and pace for creating music is ridiculous, a real sight to see. Which is why he and his partners founded the independent record label, WinWin Music. The Mission, to express himself freely and creatively with no restraints, while focusing on motivating and inspiring his audience.

Hip Hop is the fastest-growing music genre in the United States, with trendsetters and big names like Jay-Z, Eminem, and Tupac synonymous with the culture. Kanin, is aiming to get his name on that list. Multi-platinum artist Kanye West once said “Now I can let these dream killers kill my self-esteem, or use my arrogance as steam to power my dreams”, these type of statements seem to embody Kanin’s confidence. Along with his partners Kojja and Jay Dnairo, Kanin uses WinWin Music to tell his story in the most unique way.

The company’s flagship production studio, Flightroom Studios, serves as an oasis to create, collaborate, and build. Already a go-to spot for artists, actors, models and creators, WinWin Music is off to a good start. Kanin states, “By opening our doors to other likeminded creatives like myself, we’re seeing the culture around us grow in ways we couldn’t imagine. Driven by the desire to inspire we’re always looking for the WinWin Situation” That’s how WinWin Music works, that’s how Hip Hop works. The mentality of evolving, then evolving more, taking the cards your dealt and winning big!

One of the greatest secrets about Hip Hop is that it’s not defined by a single instrument, a single voice. It’s the collective whole, it’s that gumbo that makes the listener bob their head and say, “Yeah, this is Hip Hop.” In an interview, Kanin said, “Rap music is all about what comes from the inside. You can rap on top of whatever you want. Whether it’s country, classical, rock music, or even turntable creations.” Perhaps, this is one of the reasons why the impact of Kanin cannot be underestimated. He puts his soul into the music, the beat doesn’t matter to him as much as the feeling and message does. Kanin’s new releases, “Swish” prod. by multi-platinum / Grammy award winning producer DemJointz, and “Bad Boyz prod. by Mav=$, currently available on all streaming platforms. These songs showcase Kanin’s versatility and his ability to deliver effortlessly. His voice commands your attention and his lyrics tug at your reasoning. It’s like experiencing hip hop for the first time again, refreshing and surreal.

With that in mind, Kanin has big plans for the future. Starting with a monthly music release schedule, the launch of a live stream series “Live @ Daluxe”, and his west coast regional tour “We Winning.” His previous projects, “I Go by the Name Kanin Vol. 1 & 2,” “Old School New Sense,” and “8ight” are still underrated jewels. He is also featured in several podcasts, most recently on “The Big Hit Show”, centered around childhood friend Kendrick Lamar’s “To Pimp a Butterfly” album.

With new music and visuals set to be released throughout 2022, Kanin aims to take listeners on an artistic journey you’re sure to need a seatbelt for. The hip hop landscape has seen a considerable change ever since its inception in the 1970s. What began as a safe haven for African-American and Puerto Rican youth in New York City, has become one of the most celebrated genres in music. With budding artists and producers like Kanin grabbing the reins, it’s looking like it’s going to be a “WinWin Situation.”
