MacArthur Park is the Scene for the Red Bull Batalla LA Qualifier Round
Red Bull Batalla, the world’s largest Spanish-language freestyle competition, is hosting its L.A. Qualifier event next weekend, July 30th, at the historic Levitt Pavilion in MacArthur Park. The event is free to the public.
With the 2022 Red Bull Batalla season underway, these USA Qualifier Events are bracket-style and match 16 of the most dynamic Spanish-language lyricists in the country (picked from the hundreds who submitted; including San Diego’s own MYKAH, the first female qualifier from the U.S.) against each other where they’ll go bar-for-bar, in hopes of advancing to the National Final in Miami and ultimately advancing to represent the USA on the world’s biggest stage for Spanish-language freestyle rap, the Red Bull Batalla World Final later this year.
Since 2005, Red Bull Batalla has provided a platform for the best hip-hop improvisors in the Spanish-speaking world to connect, develop and compete. To give you context on Red Bull Batalla’s size, the 2020 World Final was the most-watched live music event of the year. Here’s a recap video of the 2021 International Final in Chile. Red Bull Batalla has also become a stepping stone for Spanish-speaking freestylers looking to achieve stardom, like Roc Nation Latin’s first signed artist and Red Bull Batalla alum, Mozart La Para.
