Chaske Spencer On The New Prime Video Series “The English,” The Upcoming Marvel Series “Echo” & Future Career Goals

An epic chase Western, the new Prime Video series The English — as premiering on November 11, 2022 — takes the core themes of identity and revenge to tell a uniquely-compelling parable on race, power and love. An aristocratic Englishwoman, Lady Cornelia Locke (played by Emily Blunt), and a Pawnee ex-cavalry scout, Eli Whipp (played by Chaske Spencer), come together in 1890 middle America to cross a violent landscape built on dreams and blood. Both of them have a clear sense of their intended destiny, but neither of the characters are aware that this destiny rooted in a shared past.

Ultimately, Lady Cornelia Locke and Eli Whipp must face increasingly-terrifying obstacles that will test them to their limits, physically and psychologically, within The English. But as each obstacle is overcome, it draws them closer to their ultimate destination—the new town of Hoxem, Wyoming. It is here, after an investigation by the local sheriff Robert Marshall and young widow Martha Myers into a series of bizarre and macabre unsolved murders, that the full extent of their intertwined history will be truly understood, and they will come face-to-face with the future they must live together within.

The English — its trailer can be watched here — is produced by Drama Republic Ltd, a Mediawan company, and Eight Rooks Ltd. The series was created by Hugo Blick, who also serves as an executive producer, director, and writer. Emily Blunt also serves as executive producer, alongside Greg Brenman (Peaky Blinders, The Honourable Woman) for Drama Republic. Colin Wratten (Killing Eve) also serves as a producer on The English, while its overall global distribution is handled by All3Media International.

On November 7, 2022, I had the pleasure of speaking with The English star Chaske Spencer via Zoom, which you can watch here. Spencer also talked about his role on the upcoming Disney+ series Echo, which ought to keep fans of the MCU very pleased. More on The English can be found here and here.
