The Isaac Sisters: Girls On Fire

First things first, please introduce me to the members of The Isaac Sisters…

Well for sure!!!

Hi, I’m Asia.

What’s up? I’m Aliyah.

Hey, I’m Shakira.

…and we are The Isaac Sisters!

Let’s hop right into this latest single / video, “Ways in Between” — Tell me about this particular track; how did it come to fruition?

I, Asia, wrote “Ways in Between” around 3 years ago. Just based on my personal life, and what was going on at the time. I was in love with him, and things drifted apart. We felt like we needed a love song. All of our previous songs are more fast tempo and party / feel good music. Which brought us to my song that I started to write, which is now “Ways in Between.”

“Ways in Between” comes courtesy of your semi-recently unleashed EP, Got It Like That — Conceptually, what does this title represent both to and for you all?

It represents a new chapter for us because it was the first song to be created for the EP, so it really just led the way for us to break through and tap into our R&B side, which had an amazing outcome.

How then does Got It Like That either differ and / or compare to previous The Isaac Sisters entries?

It differs from our other entries by mainly showing our R&B side, and giving the audience more vocals. The way it compares would be to our (uptempo) beat songs that you can just turn up to, and just be vibing with.

As songwriters, when you all sit down to pen your lyrics, where do you all draw your inspiration from?

We usually write our songs in a comfortable space; either at our home or the studio. Our inspiration comes from either our personal situations going on, or how we’re feeling at that moment in time.

Reflecting, tell me your whole inception into music — When did you all first become interested in it? And, how did it all begin for The Isaac Sisters?

We grew up around music, so it was a natural feeling to get interested in (it). It really all began when our grandma had gathered us up and made us sing and learn, “I’ll Be There,” by The Jackson 5, which pushed us to keep going, making our first official performance at our elementary school assembly.

Now you all are natives of Austin, TX, correct? So growing up in ‘Bat City,’ who all did / do you consider to be your strongest musical influences?

Yasss, we’re from Austin, Texas, Peridot! But we currently don’t have one from here, but we’ll definitely be the first! Lol. But shout out to Beyoncé, who is one of the biggest stars outta Texas, so she’s definitely a musical influence for us.

Now from an individual standpoint, what do each of you bring to the table both personality-wise and creatively?

For myself, Asia, I bring the more bubbly / hype side of things and songwriting. Aliyah brings the cool / chill vibe to the group and dancing. And for Shakira, she brings the laughter / fun, and has an ear for the melodies.

Having said that, how do you all classify your overall sound and / or style?

Pop / R&B….our style is a mix between TLC and Destiny’s Child.

Switching gears here…

What do you all feel has been the key to your longevity? And what will continue to sustain you all in this business?

Sometimes we have our days and don’t wanna do nothing, but we’re sisters so we push each other and have each other’s backs always. We definitely believe what will sustain us in this business is having faith in God.

What do you all want people to get from your music?

To enjoy it, and make them feel good and go back to the memories that resonate with them while listening to our music; whether that’s with love, feeling yourself, or even just having a good time.

On a more serious note, are you all happy with the current state of R&B music?

Yeah, of course!! Music grows and changes throughout the years; so it’s never gonna stay the same and that’s cool. We appreciate all different types of music, and that’s exactly what Rhythm & Blues is all about, “Good feeling music.”

Do you all have any other outside / additional aspirations, maybe even completely away from music?

Sadly, but no, this is the only thing we wanna do, and this is the only thing we’re ever gonna do, ‘cause this is just who we are. We don’t believe in plans B’s because it’s just doubting your plan A.

To date, what has been your greatest career moment(s), at least thus far anyway?

Dropping our EP fashooo! Lol. Seeing everyone’s reactions to our music, and receiving great feedback is just an amazing feeling for us. A big plus would also be working / performing with Wyclef Jean [Uncle Clef], and just having that magical moment with him on stage.

What’s an average day like for you all?

Well, we are regular 9-5’ers because gotta make money to support our dreams somehow. Lol! But we do have a tight schedule; either we’re preparing for an interview or practicing going through our vocal lessons / going to the dance studio, or just working out to stay in shape. Shoutout to our Coach Darrell!

Please discuss how you all interact with and respond to fans…

We love interacting with fans; we loveee their energy with the smiles and compliments they give us. It really shows how much they rocking with us; which makes us just wanna keep going.

What is your favorite part about this line of work? Your least favorite? And, why?

Well, we all have different likings to this but we agreed that performing would definitely be our top choice. And for the least favorite, for me, Asia, I would have to say nothing. I love it all! For me, Aliyah, I hate flying, it’s just too much security! For me, Shakira, I just hate the staring…wish people would just talk! Lol.

What advice would you all have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?

The best advice from us would be, “be about it! If you say you want it, show it and work for it ‘cause this don’t come easy, and we all gotta start somewhere…so stay focused and keep grinding!

Lastly, what’s next for The Isaac Sisters?

We’re dropping another music video this year from our EP, so y’all watch out for that. Also, working on some new music, just try’na build connections and get our name out there; and we stay ready to perform, so y’all book us! Lol.

Is there anything I left out, or just plain forgot to mention?

A lot of people think we have help, but we have been doing this on our own. This is our money, this is our grind, and this is us and we’re gonna shine!!! LOL!!
