Meet Lana Scolaro: The Fast-Rising Queen of Dance Music

Lana Scolaro

Lana Scolaro is not your average musician, she has DJ’d at some of the biggest events and music festivals in Ibiza, Los Angeles, New York, London, and several others, performing at Miami’s Ultra Music Festival, Nowhere Festival and Taboo crypto token’s first ever mansion party.

DJ Lana has also been featured on the cover of some of the biggest magazines including Harpers Bazaar. Her song, ‘AKs on my Chain’ has over 500,000 views on Youtube alone and her hit song ‘Charlie’ has over 1 million streams on Spotify.

Being fascinated by her remarkable achievements, I reached out to her about the motivation behind her music with some tips for upcoming DJs and electronic dance musicians.

Who is Lana Scolaro?

I am Lana Scolaro and I am a DJ, producer, songwriter, and singer.

What’s your genre of music?

My genre of music is Melodic Tech House and Indie Dance.

What’s the motivation behind your music?

Without music, I feel demotivated and it really has an impact on my emotions. From a young age it seemed to be the only industry which was gifting me with opportunities out of nowhere. I just want to keep going as nothing else lifts me off the ground the way a specific melody I have created feels.

What’s the toughest part of your job?

The toughest part of my job is keeping active at everything at once. I am my own boss and manager. If I don’t make things happen, I won’t thrive. I not only focus on music but also manage my social media status and collaborations with brands, hotels, restaurants, spend lots of time on professional shoots and directing them exactly how I want them to be, reaching out to brands for endorsements, while also trying to maintain a social presence.

How can the problem of gender imbalance in DJing and EDM sector be solved?

We are living in a fortuitous time when archaic beliefs and tendencies are being called out and cancelled in so many genres. EDM, like so many art forms has been male dominated since inception but finally there is real appreciation and understanding of how women can add tremendous value. Step by step and moment by moment we can team together to appreciate the women stars and recognize their strength and applaud their talent. Together we will stand and divided we will fall.

Do you have some fashion tips for new/upcoming female DJs?

I think that every female DJ should embrace who they are naturally and be themselves. Every artist is different and has their own unique qualities which can be recognized not just by their music but by their sense of style.

What’s your mental wellness tip/hack for people who work night jobs

Don’t overthink, ever. It causes unnecessary distractions and stress. Meditate any time you can as much as possible. I listen to specific cranial meditation channels on YouTube before I sleep even if it’s super late. I personally don’t like to look at my phone the second I wake up, i think that before you indulge yourself into the world in which now is predominantly technology, you should start your day with 10 deep breathing exercises, have hot water with lemon and even if you’re not working out or doing yoga, mentally trick your mind into doing something by putting on gym clothes after you shower and seize the day.

Are you working on any upcoming projects that you can share more on?

I am currently in LA and am releasing 3 singles back-to-back, I have been working on them all year and have never been more excited to share them to the world. I realized that rushing any projects is a no go and I have planned out my video for “Lambo” all myself, finding the right videographer, photographers, car companies, and of course all my girlfriends to be included in the video.

What’s the proudest moment in your music career so far?

Finding the right sound which I connect with and sticking to the same style. At the beginning of my career, I was trying to rap and do different things and realized it wasn’t working out for me and I was super young. Now I have a pure vision which i didn’t have before. My proudest moment in my entire career was when I had the decks fully to myself at Ministry of Sound Hed Kandi’s 30th anniversary and I was headlining, the crowd didn’t leave until closing.
