The World According To Neek Bucks

Let’s hop right into this 3rd single, “Red Light,” — Tell me about this particular track; how did it come to fruition?

Honestly, it was the beat. Felt like something I would drive to, and then I just wanted to tell a real story with it.

“Red Light” follows on the heels of “Count on You,” ft. Ivory Scott, and the 2 Chainz assisted “Mask Up” — Talk to me a lil bit about these selections…

These are some of my fave joints on the project. Honestly, it was hard picking which would be singles. We just want the music out, and let the fans pick.

Of course all three offerings come courtesy of your forthcoming solo LP, Blessed to the Max — Although pretty self-explanatory, still tell me, conceptually, what this title represents both to and for you?

I mean, it’s something that we all can relate to. Getting blessed or being blessed. Coming from where I come from, being alive is a blessing.

For it, you teamed up with producer Hitmaka — How did this connection even come about?

My manager / biz partner, Billy J., he’s also biz partners with Hitmaka. He linked us, and we clicked and been bros since.

How then does Blessed to the Max either differ and / or compare to previous Neek Bucks entries?

It’s something different from me. Showing more versatility, bigger beats and some big feats. Everyone knows me for just bars and pain music…I wanted to make something bigger.

As an emcee, when you sit down to pen your rhymes where do you draw your inspiration from?

My life. I haven’t wrote a rhyme in years. I spit and talk about what I’m feeling and living.

Reflecting, tell me your whole inception into music — When did you first become interested in it? And, how did it all begin for Neek Bucks?

I grew up around music; my dad, he used to sell music in the ‘hood, my mom, it was always there. I also was a good writer as a kid, and it kinda naturally just happened.

Now you’re a native of Harlem, NYC, correct? So growing up in the ‘Black Mecca,’ who all did / do you consider to be your strongest musical influences?

Aww, man, Dipset, Jim (Jones) of course, Ma$e, Cam, but 50 (Cent) is the reason I rap.

In having said that, how do you classify your overall sound and / or style?

I got a raspy voice; it’s like its own instrument. Kinda allows me to make people feel connected to the songs.

What particular string of events actually led to your current inking with MNRK Music Group?

JY and Billy connected and made it happen.

Where does your moniker Neek Bucks originally derive from?

From my gov. name.

Switching gears here…

What do you feel has been and will continue to be the ultimate key to your longevity?

Making real music that’s timeless, that’s also about my life and my views. I just want to help people go through things. Good or bad, I want to inspire and help people. Music for me is like therapy.

What do you want people to get from your music?

Hope, happiness, acceptance, motivation.

On a more serious note, are you happy with the current state of Hip Hop?

I love Hip Hop! Everything has its good and bad. I love seeing my peers win. I don’t agree with everything, but I’m focused on my music, and having people tap into me.

Do you have any other outside / additional aspirations, maybe even completely away from music?

Acting, building my label H4 Records. Fashion.

To date, what has been your greatest career moment(s), at least thus far anyway?

Meeting 50, going on tour with Benny. I dunno, it’s hard.

What’s an average day like for you?

Wake up early, take my daughter to school, shoot content, meetings, pick my daughter up, studio.

Please discuss how you interact with and respond to fans…

I love my fans! Anyone that shows me love, I show love back.

What is your favorite part about this line of work? Your least favorite? And, why?

Inspiring and touching people, and helping them get through rough times.

What advice would you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?

Don’t! Lol.

Lastly, what’s next for Neek Bucks?

More music, more videos, more Neek. I just want everyone to hear my music.

Is there anything I left out, or just plain forgot to mention?

Project on the way!! Follow me, stream, subscribe…just tap into the brand!!

Any “closing” thought(s) for our readers?

Blessed to the Max 2-17!! I just want everyone to hear the music!!
