Debut EP release: TiLT (TeoiLikeThis) drops six brand new tracks from his first official solo EP, “No Drama.”

Sacramento, Ca. producer TiLT brings an old-school style with a gleaming, modern production to the duality of “No Drama.” Every aspect of it has this elegance. He has a commanding presence on the mic, making sure that the EP depicts a life lived fully. Beats have an origami quality; the snares and drum kick fold into each other. Layered to perfection, getting lost in the kaleidoscopic array of different textures he brings into the mix is easy. Word choice works for every detail matter, for he dissects the meaning behind relationships. Paranoid and tender, his EP works as a study of contrasts.

His ability to bring together so many different worlds brings to mind the hybrid approach of Clipse. Done with such dignity, TiLT, too, has an excellent ear for addictive hooks alongside the right amount of bombast. Further along this multifaceted quality, Outkast’s work has an influence, for the hot humidity of the dirty South certainly plays a part in the overall scope. Though these are essential elements and clear reference points, TiLT does display his background in production, resulting in this uncanny amount of sheer power.

“No Drama” sets the tone on a high note. Beats rush through, and the bass worms through the rest of the arrangement. Elasticity helps to distort and distend the passage of time. Melodies are cut to snippets, for he pours a lot into the fray. A sense of swagger gives “Can’t Lose” an assertive attitude. The vocal treatment adds to the surrealistic quality. One of the fastest rhythms explores anxiety on “Pick N’Roll (feat. HunnidBall),” allowing the song to have this unhinged spirit. He brings a sense of humor and confidence to “Don’t Stop.” Riding the beat with ease, the song has this effortless chill, as this song is perfect for playing at the loudest possible volume to experience its physicality. Going for a nice acidic tinge is “Intoxicated (feat. Deanoboyyoucrazy, Que Money, and Swayshon).” A nice throwback to the late 80s and early 90s R&B, “Wasted Time” has a nostalgic yellow glow closing out the EP.
