The New York Women’s Foundation Celebrates Black History Month at the Oculus

In a vibrant celebration of Black History Month, The New York Women’s Foundation gathered to honor a remarkable cohort of women whose influence spans finance, reporting, government, law, education, and advocacy. Their unwavering dedication to justice, equity, and empowerment has indelibly marked both their respective fields and the broader community.

Honoring Changemakers of Today

Amidst the dazzling lights of the Oculus, The New York Women’s Foundation showcased an advertisement on 21 screens, illuminating the spirit of Black History Month. A Sip N’ See event, in collaboration with Grantee Partner Custom Collaborative, paid homage to the changemakers of today, echoing the theme, “Looking back to look ahead.”

Inspired by the Sankofa bird of African tradition, symbolizing the importance of embracing the past while forging ahead, the event honored a select group of women whose vibrant colors and powerful legacies embody the essence of the Sankofa spirit.

Trailblazing Honorees

Florence Anthony, Marjorie Cadogan, Dominic-Madori Davis, Dr. Danielle Moss Cox, Soffiyah Elijah, Ngozi Okaro, Rosemonde Pierre-Louis, Rashidah Siddiqui, Lola C. West, and Elizabeth Yeampierre stood as beacons of intersectionality, embodying the interconnectedness of their identities and experiences.

From Florence Anthony’s prolific journalism career to Marjorie Cadogan’s efforts in health insurance expansion, each honoree’s impact reverberates through their respective spheres, shaping the narrative of justice and equity.

A Visionary Tribute

“The remarkable contributions of these women weave into the rich tapestry of Black history, shaping New York City and beyond,” expressed Devika Gopal Agge, Senior Vice President of The New York Women’s Foundation.

In recognition of their exceptional contributions, each honoree received a citation, and their stories will be featured across The Foundation’s communication channels throughout the month. Their dedication to social justice and positive change aligns seamlessly with The Foundation’s mission, marking a pivotal moment in history.

Shaping the History of Our Future

As the campaign unfolds, guided by radical generosity, The New York Women’s Foundation and these changemakers continue to shape the narrative of our future, leaving an indelible imprint on generations to come.
