Empowering Women in “The Middle East” Through Music – “HUNNA” Initiative | MDLBEAST

The subject of “women empowerment” has seen a steady rise in popularity over the past few decades. Even though the idealogies and perceptions about “women empowerment” may differ from person to person, most people áround the world generally love to see women thrive! Nowadays, perhaps one of the biggest proponents of “Women Empowerment” across the world is MDLBEAST.

This world renowned conglomerate has a near 50:50 male to female employee ratio! At its very core, MDLBEAST is very inclusive and progressive. They truly value the presence and contributions of women just as they do with the men. MDLBEAST is always keen on providing opportunities for women in music. In fact, this year they decided to launch the HUNNA initiative targetted at supporting women in the music business!

HUNNA – “Women in Music”

About – HUNNA

This relatively new MDLBEAST initiative is dedicated to equipping and endorsing women in music predominantly throughout The Middle East and North Africa. Their foremost objective is to form a network for women in music that is conducive for growth and development. In addition, the HUNNA initiative will provide guidance for emerging female music professionals in the region. They offer exceptional mentorship programs where they match “up-and-coming” music professionals with “established” music professionals.

HUNNA Lead – “Tanya Awad”

This year they selected 4 lucky women to be guided under 4 main pillars namely; Music Business, Music Production, Music Management & Artistry. In addition to the 3 month mentorship programme, they also offer “virtual listening circles” in order to bring together the community and also touch on topics that denote to equitability in the music industry. To cap it all off, they hosted a gathering during this weekend’s XP Music Futures where they brought together the mentors and mentees for the very first time (in person). This enabled the mentees to present their assignments in person while showcasing the progress they’ve made individually and collectively.
