0Felly On His New Album “Young Fel 2,” Signing With 300 Entertainment & Future Plans
Felly has been described as “a rockstar in a hip hop time,” which makes it fitting that he is the latest signee to the same label as Young Thug, Megan Thee Stallion and Gunna, 300 Entertainment. At age 13, Felly began making soulful beats on a MPC500 — with legends like Sam Cooke, Betty LaVette and Barbra Streisand as sample references. He ultimately founded his own independent record label, 2273 Records, as named after his dorm room number. Nowadays, Felly’s list of accolades include:
– 1.3 million monthly listeners
– Over 300 million streams (and counting) across platforms
– 5 nationwide tours
– Praise from Billboard, XXL and HypeBeast alike
Earlier this month, Felly unveiled a single “Bones” from his upcoming album Young Fel 2, as due out on October 22, 2021. The official sequel to Felly’s 2016 debut EP, the new album features the Connecticut native’s experimental blend of traditional rap, indie-rock, and soul, while mixing darker tones and new-age mindset within his lyrical output. “Bones” itself was created alongside A-list co-writer Jesse St. John, who wrote the Billboard number-one single, “Truth Hurts,” by Lizzo, “Something’s Gotta Give” for Camila Cabello, and songs for Britney Spears, Charli XCX, Lauv and many others. The single was co-produced by Midi Jones, who co-produced 2021’s “Dancing With The Devil” for Demi Lovato and “Naked” for Ella Mai, and has produced Tory Lanez, NBA Youngboy, Tinashe and G-Eazy.
On October 20, 2021, I had the pleasure of speaking with Felly via Zoom, as embedded below. Beyond Young Fel 2 and his signing with 300 Entertainment, we spoke about Felly’s musical influences and future plans as an artist. More on Felly can be found by clicking here, here, here, here and here.
