Tungz – Always

Following on from the huge praise they received for their previously released and highly-anticipated EP ‘Why Do Anything?’, which was previewed by the release of their Bad Sounds collaboration ‘Somebody To Get Shy With’, the Bristol-hailing band is following up with brand new single ‘Always’ via Heist or Hit along with a premiering video.

‘Always’ sees Tungz at their catchiest and most atmospheric, with a blissful and groove-inducing anthem to round off the summer season. With the band citing loungecore French-dance aesthetic and 70s AM rock synths as their distinctive sound, it certainly shines through on this newly released track.

The uplifting-sounding track is filled with tightly-tuned percussion and guitar licks, alongside opposite lyrics detailing heartbreak and the need for change, such as “We could try to go on the same / Wishing nothing would ever change / But the feeling it fades away / And even though it’s so hard to say / I know I, I, I’m not always gonna be around”.

Speaking about the newly released single, Tungz said, “Always is about coming to terms with impermanence. Sometimes people, places or moments are meant to just be in your life for a little while – no matter how much you want them to stick around things tend not to last forever,”.

“We wrote and recorded this between home and our studio in the docks of east London. Walking around the harbour there gave us a real Bristol feeling. I imagine that crept into the song somehow. Maybe it reflects the sadness we felt when we came back there on tour and found out Luna pizza was permanently closed. Or maybe the joy when we came back later and found out it was actually still open,” Tungz continued.

With influences that range from everything including 80s synth funk, Jai Paul, ABBA and beyond, Tungz are quickly making a name for themselves as one of the most vibrant emerging acts of the year. Self-producing and with a notable psychedelic swagger throughout, the group’s latest single and video is set to see them rise from cult notoriety to your new favourite band.

Tungz’s latest single ‘Always’ will be available to stream and download from the 7th September via Heist or Hit, accompanied by the video premiere on YouTube.

The music video for ‘Always’, directed by Hector Melville, explores the song’s themes via juxtaposed mid-party and post-party settings, calling back to the band’s early days playing at house parties. In Tungz’ own words: “This was our first chance to bring in a full team on a video thanks to PPL Momentum Funding which has been a real enriching experience creatively. Obviously we spent most of the money on crystals, but having a focus puller on set was pretty neat too.”

The new single and video release has been supported by the PPL Momentum Music Fund. The PPL Momentum Music Fund is managed by PRS Foundation, with support from PPL, Arts Council of Northern Ireland and Invest NI, Creative Wales, and additional support from Spotify.

The band will be performing live on 1st October at Made Me Like It in Shoreditch, London, and also planning some DIY party shows throughout the year with the first one set to be announced soon.
