Live Session: Honey Cocaine

“I’m too real, you ain’t gotta act shady with me” – Lyrics from Honey Cocaine’s “Shady With Me” off her Like a Drug project which she dropped this past October. Not only does this joint hold so much truth, it’s an actual glimpse inside the world of one of Hip-Hop’s most lyrically massive Emcees in the biz right now.

Shouting out the West Coast from which she hails, and saluting the history of her Cambodian heritage, I’m nominating her as a global Hip-Hop ambassador just because that’s the right thing to do for the culture! IJS Straight and to the point, deadly on the verbal assault and just straight clever with it, Honey Cocaine can rep not just for females of the genre, she can rep for the entire culture of Hip-Hop.

Real Hip-Hop has always been about truth, telling it like it is, Queen Honey C as she’s known on Twitter, is holding to the pillars as she delivers lyrical missiles with multiple flavors yet a style completely her own. Harmonic balance, syncopation and over all musicality, sets her apart from the pack, and most importantly, she knows how to tell a story, draw you in and vividly paint an aural masterpiece right in front of your “ears.”

Like A Drug is a 14 joint ride-through and repeat…trust that you will get the message 1st time out of the box, but you will hear something additional each run with this one. Honey is slick wit it and drops some Rasta flavor from time to time, like she’s trying to see if you are paying attention.

We got some time out of Honey Cocaine’s busy schedule, her press run has been insane, so we made the best of the time we had and got straight to the point. It’s a great conversation and Honey was open and forthright about her goals, what she wants people to get from her music as well as what’s on the horizon for 2015. Enjoy!
