The 2017 Global Spin Awards Honors Hip-Hop’s Top DJs

The 5th Annual 2017 Global Spin Awards (GSA) was nothing short of amazing. It was created by Director Shawn Prez to highlight and celebrate the industry’s pioneer DJs for all their hard work, and dedication to their craft. More importantly, this awards ceremony is dedicated to drawing attention to what DJs and their line of work does for the culture.”It feels great to honor people that don’t normally get recognized or honored, so to put on an event that recognizes DJs exclusively, it feels good,” said Prez.

Many people do not realize that the role of a DJ has become very dynamic. DJs are making records, creating albums, opening businesses, helping people’s careers, but most importantly, they bring all the fun and entertainment. Hot 97’s DJ Camilo said, “I like the hustle of being a DJ, its a 24 hour job.” Camilo adds, “From radio, to night clubs, and apps there so much we do, but my favorite part of what we do is entertaining the people.”

Revolt and the Global Spin Awards came together to create one of the greatest evenings for DJs throughout the nation. The awards ceremony took place at the Orpheum Theatre in New Orleans, Louisiana, and the event was hosted by Tip “T.I.” Harris, an award winning Rapper, Actor, Philanthropist and Entrepreneur.  Prior to the event’s start, the red carpet filled with some of Hollywood’s favorite talents. Celebrities such as famous battle rapper Loaded Lux, Rotimi from the hit TV series “Power,” Tami Roman and Jazz Anderson from, “Basketball Wives LA,” and Tray Tha Truth, the new VP of Grand Hustle Records all attended the event in support of all the DJs, nominees, and honorees.

“I’ve had the honor of working with the worlds favorite DJs like DJ Kid Kapri,  DJ Funk Flex, and more recently, DJ Kay Slay to name a flew. But it’s important to know that all of these DJs, all of the ones here this evening, they are all pivotal to the culture,” said Loaded Lux.

Some of the evenings Nominees included DJ Self, DJ Khaled, DJ Envy and more. While the list of Nominees goes on and on, the evening was also set to honor two legendary DJs, DJ Spinderella,  and DJ Clark Kent. Spinderella was honored with the Breaking Barriers Award, while Clark Kent was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. While we can’t give away which DJs took home awards, it’s safe to say that some DJs kept winning awards, “Another One” after “Another One,” in the words of DJ Khaled.

Of all the DJs, DJ Khaled and DJ Self had what seemed to be the highest nominations for the evening. “I have 6 nominations for the evening and I’m really trying to Adele the game tonight,” said DJ Self.

Although honoring DJs is what the night was all about, it’s safe to say every single guest was looking forward to the No Limit Records reunion on stage. The anticipation to see Master P, Silkk the Shocker, Mia X, Mystikal, and Romeo perform was through the roof. “This is a huge night, its like our Grammys, but what i’m most looking forward to is the No Limit reunion tonight,” said DJ Juss. When No Limit performed, the Orpheum instantly became a party house. The entire crowd, celebrities, executives, DJs, and notable guests lifted from their seats to celebrate No Limit and their legacy.
