A fashion show creates a runway guiding kids to college

Dr. Shango Blake, a Principal dedicated to empowering youth through hip-hop innovation and pushing the culture forward, is putting together a College tour. Blake and a group of volunteers are taking a group of New York City students on a tour of multiple Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU).

The purpose of this trip is to expose inner city youth ans students their rich history, as well as the opportunities that theses colleges may offer them. Many of theses students have not been out of the city and are potentially the first in their families to attend college.

While the majority of theses students come from low-income neighborhoods, the cost of attending the college our has created an economic hardship. Therefore, to help give these young hopefuls a chance at a brighter future by attending the tour, Dr. Blake and Dnalsi and TRU SK Consultants have organized a fashion show where all the proceeds will be put towards a “Go Fund Me” account to do just that.

The students will be spending four days and three nights during their spring break visiting various colleges. All donations will help cover the coach bus, as well as, food and lodging for the students during the tour. Dates for the tour have been scheduled from April 11, 2017, to April 15, 2017. “Your support is greatly appreciated,” said Dr. Blake. “Help spread the word.”

The fashion show will be held today, April 7, 2017, at Landmark High School 351 on West 18th Street. The show will begin at 6 p.m., and tickets are $5.00.
